I stayed in Honfleur during the second part of June, just when the days of music were happening. It was very lively all across Honfleur, with different bands playing at different venues. Not to mention lots of people.

We stayed at Hotel du Dauphine. It has two parts and location is central and great. Just a few steps from the wooden church and a few steps more to the harbour. Partly is located above reception, and there is an adjacent building on the corner of the square. Entry to the adjacent building is somewhat strange, as you were walking in a private house. We stayed on a top floor, overlooking the sqare and church. Corridor and stairway was narrow, steep and dark, so some people could have problem with this (and a bit impersonal). Room was cozy, just big enough, with excellent views. Bathroom was also of a decent size and clean. The only drawback of the hotel are thin walls, as you can hear your neigbours talking clear and loud.

Wifi was free of charge, parking outside the hotel is "payant". One could also park for free, but its a bit away. We didn't try breakfast, as we rather had breakfast in cafe near the bay (for a cheaper price).

All in all, would stay again in this hotel, mainly due to its location and fair value for money.

My wife and I made our first visit to the lovely Norman town of Honfleur last August and we were won over by both the town and the fine, centrally located Hotel du Dauphin.

The Dauphin has much going for it, including a location that could not be more central. It's situated smack dab in the middle of Honfleur's town square. We enjoyed an attractive, albeit small, room in the hotel's annex (around the corner from the main building) which featured impressive views of the square and Ste. Catherine Church and, in the distance, the stunning Normandy Bridge which marks the end of the line for the 500-mile long River Seine. During our two-night stay at the Dauphin, we loved waking to the early morning sounds of Honfleur's open air market getting under way.

Staying at the Dauphin's annex does have at least one drawback: the traveler can feel a bit removed from the hotel. Walking up a few flights of stairs to an annex room isn't eay to navigate with luggage, and the hallways of the annex are plain and impersonal, featuring an array of posters on area attractions.

Still, the Dauphin compensates with a lovely and fresh breakfast on offer in its main building. Indeed, the breakfast offerings were particularly fresh and delicious - perhaps the most distinctive breakfast during our almost three-week stay in Europe (seven different accommodations), with delicious, fresh-baked breads, tasty and colorful fruit salads, and more. As for the decor, the Dauphin's breakfast room is most attractive, a perfect accompaniment to the fine, healthy breakfast.

If you arrive at the Dauphin with a car, there are no worries. The hotel will gladly steer you to a free and safe parking lot that'll require an easy ten-minute walk on your part.

A couple closing thoughts: the Dauphin is reasonably priced, and our room was enhanced by a recently renovated bathroom, including a tub and good lighting. The service at the Dauphin was most satiosfactory, and we enjoyed our stay here very much. In all, the hotel makes for a fine and handy stay at this highly desirable tourist destination.

  • Liked — Location, attractive main building, terrific breakfast
  • Disliked — hallways of annex not in keeping with rest of hotel experience

This is a special hotel to me... I spent a night there 20 years ago and decided to have a revisit again... The hotel seems to have expanded. It used to have its reception in another place of the building and they also had a restaurant there.

I stayed in Honfleur again for one night, and stayed there this time with my son and my parents (we booked a double room each). My parents had to walk up the stairs 3 floors and that is not easy for an old couple with suitcases. Instead, they were offered a better room on the 1st floor, above the reception. Both our rooms were facing the street and had everything we needed.

The location is nice, in the old centre, with a short walk to the harbour with the many restaurants and art boutiques. We had a visit to the Satie museum, unfortunately it was too short of time to enjoy the museum fully, but I know the composer's beautiful music and life already very well. Last time in Honfleur (1988) there was no museum, I just passed by the house then.

The beds were comfortable and the bathroom clean. However, there were no cold water in the shower... I forgot to complain about that, perhaps the next guest informed about the problem... my parents did not have that problem in their bathroom though.

Parking could be made for free about 400 meters south - just walk straight ahead, pass by a few streets, a hotel on the left side and then 15 meters more there is the parking on the right side (the receptionist might give you a more exact description, they have a map on the wall). When checking in/out, I had to park in the middle of the street outside, it worked fine and it is apparently usual to do that - no parking attendants or police officers complained, they know how it is.

We avoided the 10 EUR breakfast (it was served at the reception in a rather boring environment) and instead had one for 6 EUR each at a cosy café in the neighbourhood.

To conclude, Hotel de Dauphin is a price worthy and cosy hotel at a great location. And yes, I could stay there again in 20 years...

  • Liked — The location, great value, cosy
  • Disliked — Expensive breakfast, parking problems

It seems that the hotel has three buildings: the main building facing the place Pierre-Berthelot, and two annexes that face the St Catherine Church. We stayed for five nights in a "Class B : 78 euros Standard renovated room", which was in one of the annexes that face the church. The room itself was fine, larger than a typical two-star hotel in France, but there were lots of furniture which made the room difficult to manouver in. We had a great view of the church and the bell tower, so all in all, the room was pleasant to spend some nights.

Although the staff was friendly enough, we were not impressed with the service--the room was vacuumed only once during our stay, the towels were thin and worn out, the bed very old and uncomfortable. We hung "please do not disturb" signs on the door but the maid came in nevertheless! AND yes, as previous reviewers have noted, we heard our neighbours VERY WELL!!!

Also, note that free wifi cannot be accessed in the annexes--so if you plan on doing some net surfing, you would need to be in the main building.

It was an OK place to stay, but if we were to go back to Honfleur (which we probably will, since it was such a lovely town!), we will look for a different hotel. There is such a wide range of accommodation options available, and this hotel is not worth a second chance.

We drove down from Calais to Honfleur in July this year and stayed at the Dauphine for 3 nights. we'd booked the Dauphine at the last minute because it was central, seemed good value, and forum comments werent too bad.
On the way down we made the mistake of stopping in a motorway service station for coffee, we corrected that by detouring to Etretat near le Havre for a lovely lunch overlooking the sea before going over the magnificent Pont du Normandie bridge to Honfleur.
We entered Honfleur and were stunned by the picturesque cobbled streets and tall thin buildings (apparently buildings were taxed by footprint back then) and the beautiful quay side and restaurants. The Hotel is therefore in the context of its surroundings being on the market square by St Catherines Church with its seperate bell tower.
We had a standard room on the first floor of the annex (same period, another attached building to the main hotel) overlooking the square and church. The room was quite small but reasonably comfortable, the corridors and stairs were narrow and quite difficult to negotiate especially with luggage. The square was noisy especially early saturday morning for market day. Breakfast was in the main building and quite adequate and pleasantly served. Car parking is a problem in the town and we dropped the luggage at the hotel and parked in the free car park about 10 minutes walk away (rue beaulieu I think). The location a minutes walk fro the quayside restaurants and the rest of the town offset these downsides.
We visted the Bayeux tapestry and Trouville and enjoyed the trip so much we repeated it (apart from booking a superior room which is slightly bigger) a few weeks later and visited Mont st Michel another stunning venue. Also can highly recommend stopping at Wimmerau near Bologne on the jouney for lunch or dinner by the sea.
