“Wonderful inn, but you should know . . .”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2014

We just came back from a wonderful trip to France and stayed here two nights during our time in Normandy. There are so many pros to this hotel: as others have said, it is a beautiful location and property (like your French great-aunt invited you to stay with her), far enough away from the maddening crowd in the town, the staff could not be nicer or more helpful - we would have missed seeing L'Etretat without their recommendation!! But, just like when you stay with a relative, sometimes there are downsides. I have to agree with some of the other reviewers - the food there is quite expensive and you would probably have a better meal in one of the restaurants. We considered it a convenience since we got there late-ish our first night, and probably should have just run into town for a more casual meal. Also, the view is beautiful over the water but you are looking at some kind of industry (tanker, cargo ship?) in the distance. I am honestly perplexed that no other reviewer has mentioned this. It's still a great view and I wouldn't hesitate to return, but I think it's nice to know. Lastly, you should know that this is an old (and gorgeous) property, so no elevator. Since my son's suitcase roller thingamajig had chosen that time to get stuck in the bag, we felt very badly that the bell men had to lug a heavy bag up and down stairs. But, true to the wonderful nature of the staff, no complaining here. We will definitely return if we have the opportunity! (And, don't miss Etretat!).

We were immediately made to feel at home when we arrived at this delightful hotel. Flowers and hand written notes in the room we a very nice touch. Drinks on the lawn watching the sunset before a candle lit dinner in a charming dining room made for a very memorable evening. The meal was enjoyable and creative. We look forward to returning.

We did not stay at the hotel, but went to dine here on the recommendation of a chateau owner in the area. How is it possible to have such a warm welcome and attentive waiter at the same time that they serve such terrible food?!! Don't they care about what their customers eat? They need a new chef! We felt absolutely cheated for what we paid. The duck and the lamb were both overcooked -- like English cooking used to be known for. The langoustine with asparagus was very mediocre. The meat was not rosy and tender as duck and lamb usually are; both tasted like leather. The lamb was overcooked and white and hard. The vegetables were barely visible. The duck came with "beets," which meant one tiny slice of beet about 1/2 inch thick and 1.5 inch long. The bread was in slices and poor quality -- not like the good rolls or breads one expects in a restaurant with pretensions to better food. The creme caramel had no traditional brule crust which is what makes creme caramel so special. Instead it was some awful English version like what you would get in a cafeteria with some pretensious mousse to cover it up. Moreover, there was an extremely limited menu -- only about 4 entrees and 4 main dishes available in the first place. It pains me to give such a bad review because clearly Bridget wishes her guests to be pleased, and she was very lovely personally.

We have just spent 4 enjoyable days with delicious food in a delightful Normandy country house hotel. It is in an idyllic setting overlooking the sea serenaded by birdsong and we heard an occasional cuckoo, and 10 to 15 minutes walk from the picturesque harbour of Honfleur.
Nothing was too much for the proprietress Brigitte who runs the establishment with her son William and friendly and attentive staff. Our restricted diet presented no problems to the excellent chef who created special dishes freshly cooked for us. Brigitte even managed to arrange for us a personal visit to a prize winning local Calvadoss distillery and a private tour of an exceptional garden not generally open to the public. By the end of our stay we felt ourselves to be part of the family and left this beautiful spot with regret.

Room Tip: Go for rooms facing the sea and look for the special sunsets.

Lovely hotel, warm welcome and great staff.

Unfortunately, the restaurant 'gastronomic' food is very poor. Bland, boring and very disappointing. At €99 per person one would have expected an excellent meal!

Overall, great hotel but do choose a different location for the food.

We had a very warm welcome by bridget and her team. I especially appreciated the personal note and ofcourse the very personal attention to our families needs through the entire stay. I would also like to thank Peter who took time out to teach my son a little trick on plating a spiderweb. The property is quite beautiful, the rooms cosy, beach only a 2 min walk and the honfleur town a 15 minutes walk. Some minor points like no kettle in the room were easily addressed..however we were not comfortable asking people to come 2 floors up every time we needed hot water. Apart from that, dinner in the restaurant is a real treat and so is breakfast in bed. We had a wonderful time!

Excellent friendly attention from Bridget the owner & her staff. Lovely hotel in quiet location with two minutes walk to the huge sandy beach and two minutes drive to Honfleur, which we both fell in love with for its charm. Would guess parking could be a problem in town centre in peak season though.

Room Tip: We had a cheaper room overlooking the garden, which was fine, but sea view from the front would be e...
