“cosy rooms and lovely ambience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

We stayed 4 nights at Les Maisons, Honfleur is lovely and a good base for exploration. We decided to pay a little bit more to stay at this hotel as we'd been staying in small 2-3 star hotels. As soon as you step inside the hotel you feel that a lot of attention has been paid to every detail. It has a very homey and welcoming ambiance and its reception area, lounge and the dining room reflect this quality.

When we were shown our room though, I was a little aghast - it was tiny, not even room for 2 large suitcases. I asked whether there was a larger room available, we'd been travelling for a couple of weeks in France staying in tiny rooms and one of the reasons we decided to pay more at Les Maisons was because we thought we'd get a decent size room. Fortunately there was a larger room available - and we were given a FREE upgrade. We were very grateful as it certainly made all the difference to our stay. The bed was deliciously comfortable, the bathroom was spacious and with a bath - and as you'd expect, the hotel provided good amenities. Our room was nicely decorated (nautical theme of course!) and it overlooked the main square of Honfleur. Despite this, the noise didn't bother us, and stopped by about 10pm.

We parked across the road from the hotel in a metered spot, though the meter was broken and we kept a sharp eye out for parking inspectors, none appeared. So we were lucky here as well.

We had a very nice meal at the hotel one night, I recommend the restaurant if you're staying a couple of days. It was better than a couple of the other restaurants we ate at in the town.

The staff were young, friendly and very helpful. I did feel for the young woman who helped lug our heavy suitcases up the windy stairs. The rooms are scattered throughout a warren of corridors and staircases, a bit confusing at first though you quickly get used to the layout. It's part of the hotel's old world charm.

We used the spa -or the steam room, which was welcome after a long day's walking.

Room Tip: If budget permits, go for a larger room and preferably one not at the top of the building (the 20s...

Stayed in this hotel for one night after a long drive from Southern France on our way back to the UK and it is difficult to imagine a better stay : a really stunning location in the heart of Honfleur, this is a lovey hotel with excellent service.
Parking is definitely a challenge due to the location in the middle of this medieval town, but with a little patience, a spot can be found along the cobbled streets. Otherwise, large parkings are located near the town center.

Stayed here for 1 night. Arrived after very long drive to be advised that reserved parking space requested over 1 month earlier wasn't available! Had to park nearly 1 mile away as town very busy - very deceitful service..

The room was shoddy - hot, noisy & full of rubbish furniture being extremely over-priced.

Service was friendly but that didn't redeem a very poor performance from a hotel that deliberately & deceitfully misrepresented its offering.

Do not stay if driving from England - there will trick you about parking being available..

Room Tip: Don't bother staying here - find an alternative hotel if visiting Honfleur which is a lovely tow...

Being a building in a town of its time it will never be the Kempinski. It faces a 15th C church and is situated on a cobbled square with other quaint buildings of its era. Our room was compact but had a large operational bathroom and was reached via some stairs and down a couple of corridors with movement activated lights. There is no parking on Friday to Saturday in front of the hotel and Sundays are market days where you can barely access the hotel anyway, leaving you to park at a remote site down the hill and around the corner. BUT, once you are in, you have ready access to all the elements which make Honfleur such an attraction. Whilst the adjacent bell tower chimes loudly every quarter hour from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm, dinner or breakfast on the front porch of the hotel is sublime.

Room Tip: Best not next to the bell tower.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

We stayed at the hotel with a biking group. Our room was a 'name' room on the third floor overlooking the square directly over the front door (Pimpernel, I think). It boasted a sitting room and two bathrooms along with a bedroom area. From our understanding, the square location was quieter than the church side as the church organ played into the night. We were able to open our windows and sleep well on a Wednesday and Thursday night. We enjoyed the ambiance and town location immensely although the lodging could not be considered luxurious. It was most comfortable.

Breakfast had a substantial variety of items and the fresh-squeezed orange juice machine was a very special treat. My husband and I enjoyed our stay.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

Unfortunately, after a great first impression – fantastic central location and gorgeous historic building – this hotel turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. The rooms are bland and unimaginative in the extreme. Ours, though large, was very stuffy even though the temperature outside was cool for June, and the bathroom was hopelessly poorly equipped. There was no shower cap and no wash cloth. The bed, however, was large and comfortable and, as the room did not overlook the square, we also had a very quiet night. I suspect that, especially on a Saturday morning, the square-facing rooms would be very noisy as the market sets up on the cobbled streets below. I felt that €205 a night should warrant more attention to detail but this hotel fails to capitalise on its amazing potential.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms overlooking the potentially noisy square.

Our room, No. 1, was long and narrow, very quiet, overlooking a courtyard. The hotel served a big breakfast, and you could not beat the location, close to the charming port and many, many restaurants and shops.
