We booked the Otelinn as an inexpensive alternative when we found our other hotel choices were full. The hotel is devilishly difficult to find, so in addition to the long drive to Normandy we had a thorough, if accidental, tour of Caen, arriving just as the dining room was closing. As we checked in, I was told the kitchen could arrange “crudités” for us – but no meal. So we were seated anticipating some olives and carot sticks and served a huge cold plate: salads, pate, meats, bread, cheeses. Miraculous. Subsequent meals there demonstrated this wasn’t a fluke. Not what I would expect in what is otherwise a very ordinary budget motel. The rooms were simple with no frills – no shower curtains, curiously, a little worn, but clean and adequate. What made the visit special was the attentive and professional staff – and delicious food.
