“Basic but good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

This hotel is very basic (as we all know Ibis), but quite good.
Rooms (and bathroom) are typical Ibis-style, but not small (as it might be sometimes in an Ibis hotel)
The location of this hotel is excellent. Near to the city center of Caen.
Internet connection is good in this hotel (and free!)
Private Parking is an extra advantage!
Generally good hotel, quality/price!

This hotel is handy for everything a tourist would want to do , shops, restaurants site seeing are all within walking distance.you can leave your car in the undergound car park but its pricey at 10 euros a night though. The room was a bit small but adequate and the English speaking receptionists were friendly and helpfull if a little economical with the information given on arrival.ie the breakfast arrangements and the details of how to get out of the car park.Overall i think i would use this hotel again.

We returned to Caen after 7 years and wanted to stay near the marina. The IBIS hotel was perfect for that purpose. The staff were helpful and attentive. Everything we could ask for really. We would definetly stay again

Standard Ibis: clean, functional and very reasonable value as far as the room itself is concerned. Our room - a very quiet one - on the third floor was quite small, but the hotel served as a more than satisfactory base for looking around Caen and in our case, cycling along the canal to Pegasus Bridge and back. Staff were welcoming and helpful. The hotel is very pleasantly situated close to the heart of Caen. It is located near to the boats and yachts at the end of the canal and to bus/tram stops. Breakfast was pleasant enough if perhaps a little expensive. The hotel has a pleasant lounge bar, although drinks seemed overpriced
Dinner also seemed a bit on the pricey side (for what you get), but there are plenty of other options round about. We had a great, modestly priced meal at La Taverne Normande at 45 Avenue du 6 Juin.
If you are using public transport, you might find it helpful to get a day pass, or a 10 ticket book, available from the Twisto shop, near to the Tourist Info office.

Room Tip: Ask for one at the back if you want quiet

The hotel was ok, luckily we found somewhere to park for free as they charge a lot for car parking.
The room was ok if small, the gap betwen teh end of the bed and the wall you could just edge past as it was so narrow about 30cm (illegal in the UK)
The breakfast was expensive for what you get a basic continental breakfast.
Ibis hotels are on the whole not bad for the money and would stay in one again.

You get what you pay for. It's clean and basic. Nice location by the boats. Some good eateries very close by. Would never have found it without sat nav. The integral restaurant provided good meat dishes.

Ibis just seem to get better and better. This was my 3rd stay in this IBIS in nearly 10 years and it seems to me that they have really got it sorted. It's simple, basic, really good value and excellent at everything it tries to do. My family had supper in the restaurant. They said that it was very good and excellent value for money. The service was brilliant. My mum ordered steak which arrived just as the French like it, a little rare, but before she had time to comment the waiter offered to take it away and to have it cooked 'a little bit more English'!
Car parking is superb and the central location is excellent.
Lovely staff at reception who were very helpful. We ended up staying an extra night because I was ill. The staff could not have been more helpful.
We didn't have breakfast as I think it is rather expensive but I think that IBIS should think about throwing in a free breakfast for guests who stay 3 or more nights - just a thought.

Room Tip: If you want a really great meal try the Beouf and Cow. It's FAB and just short walk from the IB...
