“Good choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2007

We were very happy with this hotel. Well located. Friendly owners. Good breakfast. We were on the top floor in a lovely room with dark rafters and a sloping ceiling. No lift, but a cute stairwell. Good value.

This hotel was a great pick in a great location

Positives: The owner and his wife were very friendly and helpful. She does not speak much English but his is quite good. He arranged a rental car for us to go to Mt San Michel and booked our tour for the Normandy WWII sites.
We were put in the family room on the top floor because they were out of doubles and the room was very nice with a clean bathroom. A good value for the price we paid.
The outer door has a code for increased security.
The weekend market can't be missed. Not much English is spoken but we still managed to buy loads of delicious regional specialities from the helpful vendors. The bakeries around the hotel are also well worth a visit.

Negatives: If you can't handle steep stairs then make sure to get a ground level room. The stairs are very steep!
It is right on a major square with lots of cafes, so we could see why some reviews complain of noise. It was fine the nights we were there.
No free breakfast, but the local bakeries are a huge bargain. Check them out instead, unless you need that bottomless cup of coffee in the morning.

We had a wonderful stay. The owners were helpful and charming. The rooms are comfortable, breakfast delicious and plentiful. All in all, a great value for the price. Will stay there again.

Stayed here while cycle touring - the staff were very friendly and accommodating, and insisted on us bringing our bikes through the building to store securely inside.

The room was nice, although there were some quite noisy people nearby when we tried to get to sleep - I'm not sure whether they were other guests or in a neighbouring building, perhaps we were just unlucky.

The hotel was recommended as a mid price hotel in the Globe Trotter. The owner and his wife were according to this guide very pleasant people. After my visit I can only agree with this guide.

If you dont mind the view but do care about a quiet night, book a room in the back of the hotel.

Our family stayed here two nights while visiting the D-day beaches. We rented two rooms: one for my husband and me, the other for our three teenage sons. The hotel owner and his wife(I think) were absolutely lovely to us. While they didn't speak much English, their demeanor was gracious, charming, and eager to please. When I asked if they had a blowdryer, the lady brought me her own personal one, only requesting that she could have it back to dry her hair in the afternoon. Then we switched again the next day. The location was perfect - right on a central square and within a very short walk of all the sights and fun shopping in Bayeux. We enjoyed a generous breakfast each morning in their quaint courtyard.
The only negative for me was the width of the shower stall - it was virtually impossible to bend over to pick up dropped soap. That was actually a real challenge, but you experience all sorts of showering-challenges when traveling Europe, so it wasn't such a big deal. All in all, this was one of our favorite hotels during our 2 week European adventure, all due to the "feeling" we had when staying there.

  • Liked — The location, charming owner and service staff, cleanliness
  • Disliked — tiny shower

I stayed at the Hotel Mogador for 2 nights recently while visiting Normandy. I had a single room which could have also worked for a couple. I had room number 7 which was on the top floor and looked over the square. I loved the wood-beamed ceiling that angled down over one half of the room. The bathroom was small, but seemed to be recently remodeled. Breakfast was good, with items like cold cereal that Americans might appreciate. The couple who run the hotel are also very nice and the husband speaks english very well.
