“Friendly comfortable and convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

A very nice hotel with a welcoming, friendly, efficient staff. It is ideally located to explore the quaint town of Bayeux as well as other Normandy sights. Many Normandy sightseeing tours use the courtyard near the hotel as a meeting place. The Churchill Hotel also offers its own tour bus to Mont Saint-Michel (not included in the room charge but hotel guests receive a discount). Breakfast is offered but our schedule did not permit breakfast. The rooms are clean, quiet and comfortable. Our room was relatively spacious by European standards and the bathroom was clean and modern.

A lovely place in the center of Bayeux. We had a first floor (second level) room directly over the courtyard, which means it can be a tad loud at night and in the morning with the windows open. Manager and staff are extraordinarily welcoming and friendly. Lots of WWII photos and artifacts throughout the hotel, a big plus if you're a Normandy invasion fan. My only real knock is that it's really tough to find it while driving, even with a GPS. No lift, so pack light.

Stayed here for 3 nights - had a room that faced the courtyard, the one you see in the pic of the hotel. Unfortunately, due to the lack of airflow, the room was stuffy and a bit hot. This necessitated having the windows open. People would sit below the window and smoke and talk, then when we went to bed, due to the spotlights on the hotel sign, the room was very well lit regardless of what we tried to do to the drapes. So even though the staff is great and the location is great, I need to rate it with 3 stars.

Nestled amongst the canals of the River Aure and ancient cobble stone streets, the Chruchill Hotel provided us with a beautiful resting place in the heart of Normandy. It is decorated to inspire a warm upscale British feel and the walls are covered in WWII photographs and memorabilia. It is a two minute walk to most of the best restaurants and shopping Bayeux has to offer. There is free parking five minutes away (Just ask front desk). There is a nice grocery store right next door. We had a little trouble finding the place due to the cute little streets that wind around the city center but the reward is worth it. Our room did not have A/C but the cool August air kept us very comfortable at night. The front desk staff were extremely helpful making reservations and even assisting us in making reservations for a Paris river cruise. The owner, Eric, obviously takes service very seriously. I don’t think we could have asked for a better hotel to set the mood for our visit to Normandy.

Room Tip: Our room was situated on the rear, overlooking the patio. It made for a beautiful and quiet view.

The Churchill Hotel is located right in the middle of the tourist portion of downtown Bayeau. One side faces a pedestrian street with lots of quaint shops and restaurants. Other side features a small patio great for evening refreshments. Room was comfortable with modern furnishings. The lobby and hallways have photo of WWII. The friendly staff provided information about local attractions, tours, etc. Highly recommend.

So glad we stayed in this city of Bayeux. This hotel was not fancy, but had updated bathrooms. We thought the street side of the hotel was going to be quiet at night, but with some show near the Cathedral letting out at 10:30 & 11:30 pm, it didn't happen that way. I would suggest asking for a room on the court side of the hotel, b/c the doors open completely, for fresh air, as opposed to the windows in our room. Bathroom window curtain was almost transparent, which led me to do some 'limbo moves' to protect my privacy. We did have breakfast one morning, opted not to the next and found a delicious bakery up the street. The staff at this hotel were pleasant, and we saw many guests taking the Normandy tour van. The hotel next door, The Villa Lara, was nice, as I stopped in to compare "ratings."

Room Tip: Ask for courtyard room, street side was somewhat loud.

Great Location very friendly staff. It is an old rustic hotel that you will love. Had a great place to sit outside and enjoy a good bottle of wine. Rooms were comfortable.Breakfast was excellent. One issue is the hotel does not have an elevator but the staff will carry your bags to your room. The location is graet for anything in Bayreax. The hotel serves a great breakfast.

Room Tip: We took a superior room and it had plenty of room and was on the first floor. The hotel does not hav...
