“Is This a "Fawlty Towers" Impersonator”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

You might think that this a harsh assessment of this establishment. On arrival in Bayeux, we found that the de Brunville hotel and the ajoining Grand Hotel du Luxembourg appear to have merged their operations.
Our assessment is that both hotels would benefit from the "wreckers ball" as the standard of accommodation leaves a lot to be desired. On our arrival, the female receiptionist was cool to indifferent as we had interrupted her lunch. We were told to return later when the room would be ready. This is fair comment - not the attitude with which it was delivered. The quality of our room was in our perception, akin to something around circa 1930's. Our booking was for de Brunville but the room appeared to be located in Luxembourg. We decided to "bite the bullet" and get on with sight seeing. However it became apparent on return later in the night that we had a cistern that continually ran. This proved to be so disruptive that sleep was impossible. The gentleman on the desk quickly recognised our distress and organised a change of room into the de Brunville site. Breakfast was totally forgettable amd reflected a perception of cost cutting. I could not recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Bayeux and the Normandy region.

I stayed here for two nights while seeing the Invasion beaches. I had a fine experience. The hotel is located a block from the main street of Bayeux and easily within walking distance of many restaurants, taverns, the cathedral, and the tapestry. The room was a bit small, but I expect that when in Europe and choosing accommodations with a budget in mind. The bathroom was very good; large and clean. The Reception staff was friendly and spoke serviceable English. The breakfast was good (a bit pricey at 12 euro, but that seems common) and I ate my fill both mornings. The hotel offers off street parking, though I didn't have a car. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling on a budget, as it was good value on the Euro.

Hotel de Brunville has two buildings - one older and nicer than the other and of course we got the not so nice one. But hey, it was cheap and cheerful and very close to the centre of Bayeux. The rooms were very small and the shower kept coming off the wall but really it had everything we needed.
The restaurant was great and we loved our food. The staff were very helpful. We didn't realize that we had to pay extra for the car park - about 8 Euros a day but it was just a couple of buildings up from the hotel.
All in all the hotel was adequate and as I said you got what you paid for.

In my entire life I never came across such a bad travel experience. We stayed there my wife and I, and experienced the worst scenario ever. Staff could not speak english and made us feel unwelcome.
The bedrooms were filthy, with bugs in the mattress!!! My wife had to be rushed to a Doctor and was covered with bites of the worst kind. ( We got locked out of our own bedroom, no management around, no apologies whatsoever. When we finally got to talk to the head of reception, she did not even bother to stand up of her chair, she ironically smiled at us. This hotel is real a nightmare and so is the staff, the hygiene (filthy carpets, bed linen, and bathroom towels looking like mops! Do not go there!!!! go and spend your money elsewhere. They obviously do not like tourists. We had to move to a different hotel!

Booked on line for two nights to do a D-Day tour. Great location right off the main street; and that was the biggest problem which was noise. No AC so we had to keep the windows open as it was stuffy. Hotel is directly across from the cinema and very loud. With the windows open, the bright light from the street also illuminated the room all night. One overhead light in the room. Beds were not comfortable for either of us. Spacious bathroom for European standards. Great deal on room service meal of the day(15EUROS). Checkout was strange as they didnt seem to keep any record of my checkin preferences, no parking, no breakfast, etc. The hotel has been acquired by the Luxembourg next door and that looks to be nicer. You can do better.

We booked our hotel as part of an air and hotel package. With the company we used, this and one more hotel were the only choices for Bayeux so since we had stayed in a more expensive hotel in Paris, I decided to try a 3 star hotel for the 3 nights in Bayeux. Our room was clean, but very tiny. There was little room to turn around in the room or the bathroom. It was very cheaply decorated which wouldn't have been a problem if they had been a bit larger. The front desk people were not helpful at all for guide information or anything else. Our TV did not work the second night, and the attendant came to look at it and said there was nothing he could do. We had prepaid so had little chance of getting any money back. We would never stay there again, and would recommend others didn't stay there either.

We stayed here for 1 night during a tour of Normandy. It is in a good location being right in the centre of this pretty town. Walking distance of the Tapestry and Cathedral as well as bars and restaurants. We paid 80 euros for an average, small room. It was clean but in need of renovation. The shower head was broken so had to be used as a hand shower. We didn't have breakfast but it was 12 euros presumably for continental style. Private parking at the hotel was 9 euros. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good lower price hotel.
