“Stay here if you are in Normandy!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2012

We spent three nights at Villa Lara Hotel and were so happy we chose it. Our room and bathroom were spacious and lovely. We had a view of the cathedral which is beautiful in the morning and even more beautiful at sunset and lit up at night. We could easily walk from the hotel to any of the sights and restaurants in town. The breakfast was delicious and definitely worth the cost. The lobby bar area was the perfect place to have a glass of wine after a long touring day. The staff was very helpful, friendly, and accommodating!!

First, make sure you book this hotel for your stay in the Normandy region. Second, make sue to ask for a room with a view of the church. This was an absolutely amazing hotel. We arrived late and they were so accommodating, making sure we could get to a restraunt for dinner. The breakfast room staff and chef were unbelievable. Any request was accommodated. The rooms were amazing. The beds beyond comfortable.

Thank you for making our stay so memorable and offering us such a wonderful experience.

Absolutely charming staff. They couldn't have been more accomodating. Free parking, upgraded to a suite with a view of the Abbey, warm and welcoming fire to drink a late night calvados in front of and a superb breakfast. What more do you want for 150 Euros?

We just got back from a visit to Normandy and this lovely boutique hotel. It is the end of the season so it was not very crowded. I think that all of the rooms are lovely as they are all new and fresh. Yuri at the front desk is what makes this small hotel run so smoothly. Our mistake was not booking a guide for the beaches/memorials so when we got there we were quickly booked with a driver who turned out to have an old van and we were in the third seat with five people in front of us and could not hear her or understand her. (Yuri did not book this unfortunately), My recommendation would be to get a private guide and book before you go - it is a very long way to travel and have such a poor tour. If you decide to go to Mt.Michel be sure and find out if they have the permit to drop you off at the front...other wise it is a very very long walk to a shuttle and then more walking and they are doing construction, I think this is probably the nicest place to stay in the area and so many restaruants are a block away - definitely a four star. My only complaint was at the end of the day we wanted to have a night cap in the beautiful small lobby bar. If you want vodka etc. they give you a one ounce measured pour for $8 and $16 for two ounces. The wine was fair and $7 for a small pour...I would suggest walking around the corner to the liquor store on the main street. Lovely breakfast for $16E and all of the staff is wonderful.

We spent three nights at this small hotel in Bayeux. We would recommend this highly to any American traveling in Normandy. We did not reserve a deluxe room, but even so we were pleasantly surprised by the well-appointed features and the beautiful bathroom. The shower was fabulous, and we appreciated the free Wi-Fi and English speaking staff. Breakfast was lovely and well worth the extra charge. My only complaint, in fact, is that their wine selection in the bar is sub-par and overpriced. You can work around this by planning ahead and purchasing your wine from Le Volent Qui Penche around the corner.

We did not have a car, but the hotel is well-situated near many great restaurants and a stone's throw from the Bayeux tapestry as well as the charming Rive Aure. D-day guides and Mont St. Michel shuttles pick up from the adjacent parking lot. It is convenient, comfortable, friendly and a really great value.

Room Tip: We had an average room with a great view overlooking the spires of the lovely Notre Dame Cathedral...

Charming well-appointed hotel in the picturesque city of Bayeux near the D-Day beaches. If you plan on visiting Normandie, France, this is definitely the place to book. Expert consierge, gorgeous bathrooms and bedrooms. Breakfast was beautifully prepared and available in the small cozy restaurant of the hotel. They also sell jams, made from local ingredients on site. Rooms go fast, so book early.

Room Tip: Small hotel--book early.

We two couples spent 2 nights at Villa Lara in early October. It is a beautiful, modern, meticulously cared for boutique hotel that is perfectly situated for exploring the Normandy coast. The rooms are comfortable and quiet and clean and neat. The personnel are helpful and accommodating...particularly Yuri who manned the front desk on our arrival and was there to tend to our many questions and needs each day we were there. Bayeux is a quaint and picturesque village with lots to do and see beyond the famous tapestry. Restaurants are plentiful and food is delicious. We are a well travelled foursome...over much of the world...and rate Villa Lara among our best travel experiences.
