“Cracking bar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2014

This was the nearest bar to our hotel, Hotel D'Argouges. Bayeux, does not have many bars, however this one was worthy of note.
It has a good selection of French and Belgian beers on draft along with a good number of spirits.
Staff were friendly, offering us tasters of Calvados....not to my taste, but when in Bayeux .....
On Saturday night, there was a band playing an eclectic mix of tunes which made for good back ground music.

“Great service and interesting food. Loved the waiter.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2014

On sunday evening not all restaurants are open in france so we were happy to be recommended this by the owner of the hotel we were staying in a couple of doors away.
Nice brasserie/bistro interior with lots of red and mirrors. Great waiter who ,bless him, brought the english menu - but we understood the french version better! Did not mind us not having wine at all as we like the cider in Normandy. My wife amd I both had the gastronomic menu including free amuse bouche at 39 euros - great value. All the food was great and I was so happy to be able to order an entire veal kidney - served pink. I would go back there for that. I think waiters in France are better on average than those in England - possibly because it is a much more respected profession. This waiter ,quite a tall man with a similar build to basil faulty simply glided around the room and was a pleasure to watch him operate. The food was not gastronomic but very good regional food that is becoming more difficult to find in france.

“Avoid this restaurant”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2014

We never got to eat the food in this restaurant as we walked out before ordering! We arrived one wet night, tried to sit down at the wooden tables near the entrance but were ushered into the main restaurant with white table cloths and well dressed waiters. All we wanted was a light one course meal so we asked for the "a la carte" menu which was brought - however, the waiter insisted we have 2 courses which we didn't want - so back to the original wooden tables! We ordered drinks - the beer and wine were brought promptly and so was the FLAT Perrier mineral water in a glass - the usual custom in France is to bring the small bottle and for the waiter to pour the water into the glass at the table. Neither the waiter nor the manager were helpful - in fact quite the opposite. There were 2 in our party who did not speak French but even they got the gist of what the manager was saying! So I would definitely not recommend this restaurant!

“Good food and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

We ate lunch and supper at Le Taverne des Ducs on the day we arrived in Bayeux. We enjoyed the food and found the staff to be pleasant, friendly, and helpful. The head waiter used his phone to help us make contact with our B & B. For supper we ordered the plat du jour; the meal was very good and the price reasonable. We were very satisfied with everything about the Taverne.

“Lunch at a Bayeux Restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

Onion soup and 3 cheese plate was great. Wait staff was a bit aloof and not very friendly... maybe it's the French waiter thing.
