“basic but clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

This hotel was cheap so it was very basic, but it was clean. The room was quiet and the staff pleasant .Breakfast was basic also, but ample. 10 mins walk from the station and the main square. I would stay here again for a cheap weekend.

The room, as expected from Etap hotel is very basic but clean. The location is very good and quiet. And just 5min walk to Rue de Gand which is full of restaurants. only 15min walk to historic center as well. There is also secure underground parking. 5 euro per day is a good price considering anywhere else I looked it would cost more than 10 euros per day.

Stayed here with OH and friends for a weekend break. Etap hotels are well known for their bargain priced "en suite" accommodation. As we had driven here, having taken the ferry from Dunquerque (less than 1 hour away) we were pleased that secure parking was offered at this hotel in a central Lille location. Parking cost an additional 5 Euros a night payable at the hotel on arrival but a better option than leaving car on the street and having to move it every morning (understand parking is free on street on Sundays and Bank Holidays).

The subterranean Hotel parking is immediately adjacent to the hotel reception entrance towards the Rue de Gand/Gant end of Rue de Courtrai, quite hard to find in the dark!

The room was clean and basic. OK for 2 nights. The shower is in the corner of our room, it was quite small and only has a curtain rather than a glass/solid enclosure so there is the possibility of getting a wet bathroom floor. No shower/bath mat provided.

As usual, bring your own showergel, shampoo as only basic soap provided.

Room was warm enough, we did not have breakfast at this hotel but it will probably be a bargain at the hotel at around 5-6 euros as nearby cafes charge 4Euros just for a coffee on its own in this city.

Staff on reception and the cleaners were very nice, polite and friendly.Cannot fault them.

The Rue de Gand/ Gant street is full of restaurants and bars so fun location for nightlife atmosphere, eating & drinking. We tried the Restaurant du Vin (wine restaurant), Brigand Bar (good beer, cozy friendly atmosphere) the Queens Head & Australian Bar.

As others have mentioned in their reviews, the only thing to be aware of is that as well as this area being a lively night-time location it also appears to be a "red light" district with quite a few "working girls" situated in close proximity to Rue de Gand, the mainline stations (and therefore, also this hotel). So if you have children with you or others who might be easily offended or uncomfortable about this it might be better to chose a hotel in a more sedate neighbourhood.

As a female traveller I did not feel unsafe at this hotel or in the immediate surroundings, compared with similar locations in Paris, Amsterdam/certain German cities.

In all the central location and value for money price of the accommodation outweighed the negatives

Room Tip: Our group stayed in Rooms 213 and 215 these are at the back of the hotel. Our rooms appeared to have...

This is a new budget Ibis, and physically there wasn't anything wrong with this austere but modern place. The man at the reception desk was was efficient but detached.

The online price I paid was considerably more than the cheapest tariff for the room, and the advertised price on the marquis outside was 10 euros cheaper. In my opinion the price I paid was a little too much for what I got, when I got it.

Comfy bed at budget price in a convenient location. 15 minutes walk from Lille Flandres train station. Eat as much as you want continental breakfast. Just remember to bring your own hairdryer as there is no guarantee one will be available at reception.

The rooms are basic & what you'd expect for an Etap. The room was clean & fine for an overnight stay. The hotel has just changed its name to Ibis Budget. The rooms could do with a bit of a face lift..to revamp the overall look of the outside of the hotel & in the rooms.

There is free wifi offered which is very convenient. & the speed was quick & reliable. There is underground parking but very tight & the same entrance & exit! Spaces are small & if your car makes it out in 1 piece...your lucky. It's 5 euros per day.

We had the buffet breakfast for 6 euros per person. It was reasonable. The usual croissants, breads, yoghurts, fruit & juice & hot drinks & thats about your lot! They need more seating as breakfast got quite hectic as more & more guests kept coming & there were no tables/chairs left.

The beds were very comfy & good location - 25-30 mins walk into the centre (near the ferris wheel). Would stay again!
