“Absolutely marvellous hotel - discovered while wandering around Lille”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

This hotel was absolutely lovely. Tremendous service - exceptional. Great front desk staff. We just rang when we were about five minutes away and they were waiting for us. Showed us the room. We didnt have to check in - they just took our passport and credit card and bought it back to us. Lovely rooms. Excellent price. Very easy checkout. Very nice about late checkout. Very relaxed. Really terrific staff. Delicious breakfast. Perfect.

Room Tip: Our room overlooking the courtyard was lovely

I took my girlfriend to L'Hermitage this past weekend for a birthday surprise and we had a great time. Beautiful converted nunnery/hospital that has been really well converted to the modern - but keeping so many beautiful features such as the town courtyard gardens where you can relax in the sunshine. The photos are very right in conveying this. We stayed in one of the old nuns quarters with high ceilings, exposed beams, tiles and a real sense of history, great view over the courtyard etc - wonderful! Big bathroom, soft robes, nice Hermes products so the room certainly delivered. Breakfast did the job, small English selection but a lot of meats cheeses and pastries and even bubbles if you fancied. Location is fine, we walked from the Eurostar and thats about 10-15 mins and not long in a taxi i'm sure. Again 10 mins or so from the main square so for us location was good. The only negative points were the desk staff who didnt offer what i'd consider 5* service and were quite detached at both check in/out so didn't endear me to the place when we arrived early and dropped our bags. When we did finally walk around the hotel I was won over by the building itself. I would recommend it based on the above though hope for a warmer welcome another time

Room Tip: Ask for a courtyard view if you can get it - beautfiul view! I'd say the 1st or 2nd floor also f...

Stunning building, friendly and efficient service, French plumbing. Step into a bygone age, old fashioned service, free WiFi. Certainly the best place to stay in Lille aand no more expensive than the modern chain hôtels at the TGV station.

We were in one of the 'Chambre Tradition' rooms. It was very tastefully furnished and managed to keep some of the original wooden beams, and was generally well appointed.
There was bafflingly a lack of clothes storage space however.

the main bar area was stunning - basically an old courtyard enclosed in glass. Although the drinks were the usual expensive hotel prices, it was worth it to sit in this area.

Good food in the adjacent brasserie

Our base for a city break, we really enjoyed this hotel. The combination of old and new has been done well. The bar is a lovely place to sit and drink. The room was lovely, if a touch small, and perfectly comfortable. Staff were courteous and helpful. Location is ok - slightly dubious street and a 10-15 minute walk from the main sites. Overall a great place to stay if a little pricey.

This is a very well placed hotel - only a 5 minute taxi ride from the Eurostar station. The building is a clever combination of an old hospice and modern facilities making a very quirky finished product. Our room was of a decent size, but I did not like the separate WC with no fan and no wash hand basin. The bathroom was fine, except the sink was such a curious shelved design with no plug - only a drain - it was impossible to fill it with water for washing or shaving. Everything was clean, and the service at reception was brisk and efficient. We did not sample the food as our deal did not include breakfast (an eyewatering 42 Euros for 2) nor did we stay in for evening meals. The bar prices were sky high, but then it is a 5* hotel. We would definitely stay again.

We liked this quirky hotel in Lille, it is a perfect mix of new and very old. We arrived mid-day and were promptly escorted to our room in the older part of the hotel. As our lovely escort opened our rather crooked door, she announced that we had received a room upgrade.

It was indeed a nice, large room … and it was the most unusual hotel room we’ve ever slept in. We entered into an area with a wardrobe and work table. To the left was a large bedroom with a king-sized bed, sitting area and an old fireplace. To the right was a huge bathroom, well appointed, including bathrobes and slippers.

The floors were so slanted that the furniture legs had to be cut to various lengths to keep them level, but it was simply charming. We had windows in every room with a view of a purple flower packed inner courtyard.

As worn and crooked as the old part of the hotel was, the public spaces were sleek and modern. The atrium cocktail lounge was very pleasant and the piano music added to the nice ambience. The drink/wine prices, however, were very high compared to anywhere else we stayed and compared to the nearby restaurants and bars. My husband ordered a second glass of wine which, along with the server, never appeared. We took it as our cue to leave and find a place for dinner.

The front staff was helpful with restaurant advice and directed us to two very good, not so touristy, places to dine.

The only faults with this hotel for us were the terribly slow WiFi connection, although we appreciated that it was free, and the location. The hotel is situated a little out of the way from the center of town and the area wasn’t the best. But we are walkers and easily walked to both train stations and to all the Lille sights.

We enjoyed our stay here and appreciated the nice upgrade. Would recommend to anyone staying in Lille.
