“comfortable and convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

A big hotel feel - not particularly friendly upon arrival and lots of conference and business types about. Imperfect English meant that reception staff were diffident about giving advice re restaurants etc. Hotel booked taxi was particularly unpleasant. Nonetheless, comfortable and reasonably close of old town which is where tourists will most want to visit. Bathrooms focused on style over sense - inaccessible bathtaps, dark drey tiles etc. Interesting hospice museum.

Room Tip: Go for ground floor - the rooms seemed better

We have had a 2 day break in this lovely, luxurious hotel, close to the centre of Lille. The rooms are so comfortable and the whole ambiance of the hotel atmospheric. Not many hotels can boast a museum and chapel. There are also many ancient and modern pieces of art. An amazing place.

As another New Year’s Eve approaches, I thought it appropriate to look back on our trip to celebrate the last one. We took a long weekend at the Hotel l’Hermitage Gantois in Lille, to include the New Year’s Eve Ball.

The hotel had been sympathetically updated from its original use as a hospice; beautifully done. Exploring the property is a wonderful adventure in itself, from the chapel to the library, the small museum, and beyond. Anyone who enjoys the comforts of a quality hotel in an unusual, fascinating setting will adore this one.

The atmosphere was relaxing, especially in the cocktail bar area, formed from a courtyard with glassed roof. Throughout the hotel, the staff were unobtrusive but always there to offer a helping hand just when you needed it, really top class service.

The hotel is well-located, just a short walk from the old town, and convenient for the Eurostar station (10-15 minute walk, or a 2-minute taxi ride – but watch out for the taxi drivers who know how to find every set of traffic lights in the town!).

The New Year’s Eve Ball was excellent, including live entertainment and a disco into the early hours. All too often at such events, mass catering leaves much to be desired in the quality of the food served. Quite simply, this didn’t apply at l’Herimtage where the cuisine was exceptional; we couldn’t fault a morsel. With unlimited quality wines included in the cost, the event was thoroughly enjoyable, and breakfast the following morning was only for the really strong-willed!

Room Tip: Our room was in a secluded area at the front of the hotel, accessed via a small external but enclose...

A beautiful hotel, well worth the money. Prices in the bar are very expensive but the service and surroundings are excellent. The staff are extremely attentive and eager to help in any way they can. The centre is only a 5 minute walk and the Eurostar station about 15 minutes.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012 via mobile

Just back after spending 3 nights with my family. We had two rooms, one was small the other smaller. Furniture was old and not very functional and not 5*. Our room overlooked the inner courtyard which was noisy with drunks and smokers. Reported the noise at 12-30 am but had get up and deal with it myself. Unusual hotel but expensive when you consider no parking, no pool, no spa and expensive parking and restaurants.
The staff were helpful and friendly but the hotel is only a four star with a five star price, what a disappointment!!

Dear Sir,

Please do accept our apologies for any inconveniences you must have met during your recent stay in our hotel and we are looking forward to welcoming you back for you to appreciate our standard and unrepeated issues.
Actually a spa with an interior pool is projected for autumn 2013. It is very unfortunate that you did not enjoy our Valet parking and beside you do have the possibility to park your car for free at night on the street.
The Hotel was created in an hospice of IV century and which explains the personalization of each room.
L’Hermitage Gantois offers two qualities restaurants, L’Estaminet Gantois (Bistro) offers 2 courses menu at the rate of 18€uros and L’Hermitage (Gastronomic) offers menu at 38€uros.

We will please to welcome you for another stay

Yours faithfully,.

We stayed at the hotel for a romantic weekend in Lille. Our main reason for choosing this hotel was its close proximity to the square. The bar area was lovely and relaxing but the main restaurant was closed during our stay which was disappointing.

We booked a standard room which was a decent size with a queen bed. What we thought was a bad design was the toilet was not in the bathroom but in the entrance to the room yet the hand basin was in the bathroom! So you had to go through the bedroom to wash your hands, very strange. That said we would stay again but would have a room upgrade.

Room Tip: Go for a better room than standard but check where the toilet is.

We stayed for 2 nights last weekend. Loved the hotel, especially the bar area with its comfy sofas.
We ate in the hotel restuarant both evenings, and the meals were excellent, although our food and drink bill was more expensive than the price we paid for the hotel ! Most people made an effort to dress up for dinner, which is a nice change. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are extremely friendly. I would suggest that this is not a hotel suitable for children.
There was a sample of Elie Saab lotion in our room which was lovely. It worked, as we went and bought the perfume the next day !
The drawback with this hotel is the parking. We had read previous reviews which said the charge was 25 euros a day. We were not thrilled, but accepted that we would have to bear the cost, and assumed they had an underground car park. When we arrived at the hotel on the Friday evening, there was street parking available nearby, but it was all metered as far as we could see. The charges are from Monday to Saturday, 09.00 - 19.00hrs @ 1.90 euros as hour. We submitted our car to valet parking at the hotel,
A little later, whilst we were settling into our room at the back of the hotel, we were shocked to see that our car was parked just below our window, by the bins ! As this is my husbands pride and joy, he was rather distressed to say the least. The bins were actually for recycling, and we saw this occur at 18.00hrs on Saturday evening. Luckily there was no damage to the car.
I would suggest to the hotel, that if your guests have paid for parking, allocate them a room in a different part of the hotel. We would never have known if our room hadn't been just above the car. If you're a guest, and you're paying for parking, make sure youre not the first arrival of the evening, as your vehicle will be nearest the bins ! We did speak to reception about this, and they said all their staff are very careful, so there was no problem.
Lille is a lovely city to spend a couple of days. We were very surprised at the number of beggers around the city, even against the number you see in London. We enjoyed our trip, but I doubt we will return to Lille.
