We have had a 2 day break in this lovely, luxurious hotel, close to the centre of Lille. The rooms are so comfortable and the whole ambiance of the hotel atmospheric. Not many hotels can boast a museum and chapel. There are also many ancient and modern pieces of art. An amazing place.

As another New Year’s Eve approaches, I thought it appropriate to look back on our trip to celebrate the last one. We took a long weekend at the Hotel l’Hermitage Gantois in Lille, to include the New Year’s Eve Ball.

The hotel had been sympathetically updated from its original use as a hospice; beautifully done. Exploring the property is a wonderful adventure in itself, from the chapel to the library, the small museum, and beyond. Anyone who enjoys the comforts of a quality hotel in an unusual, fascinating setting will adore this one.

The atmosphere was relaxing, especially in the cocktail bar area, formed from a courtyard with glassed roof. Throughout the hotel, the staff were unobtrusive but always there to offer a helping hand just when you needed it, really top class service.

The hotel is well-located, just a short walk from the old town, and convenient for the Eurostar station (10-15 minute walk, or a 2-minute taxi ride – but watch out for the taxi drivers who know how to find every set of traffic lights in the town!).

The New Year’s Eve Ball was excellent, including live entertainment and a disco into the early hours. All too often at such events, mass catering leaves much to be desired in the quality of the food served. Quite simply, this didn’t apply at l’Herimtage where the cuisine was exceptional; we couldn’t fault a morsel. With unlimited quality wines included in the cost, the event was thoroughly enjoyable, and breakfast the following morning was only for the really strong-willed!

A beautiful hotel, well worth the money. Prices in the bar are very expensive but the service and surroundings are excellent. The staff are extremely attentive and eager to help in any way they can. The centre is only a 5 minute walk and the Eurostar station about 15 minutes.

Just back after spending 3 nights with my family. We had two rooms, one was small the other smaller. Furniture was old and not very functional and not 5*. Our room overlooked the inner courtyard which was noisy with drunks and smokers. Reported the noise at 12-30 am but had get up and deal with it myself. Unusual hotel but expensive when you consider no parking, no pool, no spa and expensive parking and restaurants.
The staff were helpful and friendly but the hotel is only a four star with a five star price, what a disappointment!!
