This was discribed as a basic hotel with basic rooms, I knew that before I left and was therefore in no postion to complain that it was in fact 'basic' when I arrived. But I would not hold that against it , an ideal location looking out onto the busy streets surrounded by bars and resturants. A small point to bear in mind if it is hot is that there was no air con which made the nights a little difficult. We were on a three day Euro star getaway, and to be honest three days is too long to stay in Lille. However across the road from the hotel is the railway station where we got a train to Arras. It was only 50 minutes away, on a fast clean train, the day return was 20 Euros and was well worth it. As mentioned previously some rooms do not have a shower head holder or curtain(Room 303 in particular). So if you want an ideally placed hotel that is clean and very cheap look no further.

Travelled with my wife for a three day break on the Eurostar - the journey was superb, the hotel a five minute walk from Eurostar station, although there is a station Lille Flandres across from hotel.
Staff very helpful and polite, room and bathroom large. Shower did not fit into wall but the bath was more than adequate.
First time ever stopped in a hotel without a bar but this did not matter as there are numerous bars on the front of the hotel.
Only cticism is of Lille itself, nothing to do with hotel, but three days too long unless you enjoy shopping !!
Although Lille Old Town very charming.
Like Meadowhall/Metro/Trafford Centres with sunshine. !!!!

I needed a room for just one night to catch the Eurostar next day, and chose this hotel based on Lonely Planet.

The staff are very cheerful, helpful, and friendly. I asked for a room facing the back, and it was basic, but comfortable, and very quiet. The bathroom was fine.
For the price, it was okay.

The staff asked me if I needed anything each time I passed, and readily agreed to give me late check-out as I had a later train time. They also charged me the single rate for a double room.

This hotel is not the best choice for seeing Lille, but for just one night it is very convenient, and perfectly comfortable - but ask for a room facing the back.

The hotel is situated opposite a railway station - convenient but very noisy at night.

The room was pretty basic and a bit shabby - it had obviously been used by a smoker or 10! The state of the carpet did not encourage you to walk around with bare feet.

The breakfast room (which seems to double as a lounge/smoking room at night) was unwelcoming and there was no buffet. You are brought a tray containing your chosen beverage and a piece of French bread with butter and jam. No fruit juice or fruit.

Good value for school parties - which adds to the noise factor.

we stayed at the hotel "flandres angleterre " opposite the gare de lille flandres. there was no air conditioning which meant hot and sticky nights. although the rooms had double glazed windows rooms at the front and side were still pretty noisy. there was only one small mirror per room above the washbasin in the bathroom. be prepared for an overwhelming smell of stale urine in the streets from friday until the street cleaners have been round on the monday morning. where were all the restaurants serving delicious food that the french are so supposedly famous for? most had been abandoned for a "braderie" menu which provided everything avec pommes frites. one little oasis was the patisserie "meert" which was open on the sunday, serving scrumptious cakes and chocolate delictations. we did not find the french very geared up for disabled access most facilities were either up or down narrow steep staircases.
