“Beware of the Train!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

On the one hand the room was very comfortable and you do get what you pay for, but our room for 3was located at the end of the block, right next to the railway track. Yes they don't hammer through all night but they do run ate and start early, causing a shorter night sleep than planned. Didn't eat breakfast on account of cost. If you've time go into the city and eat in more pleasant surroundings for half the cost.

Had to stay in this hotel (professional trip to Lille) and found it below my expectations.

Pros:
The rooms were clean.
There's a the metro station 5 minutes walk.
Looks good (...from the outside...!).
Breakfast doesn't have a huge selection but it's OK (Milk, Fruit, Yoghurts, Toats and of course: Croissants...).

Cons:
This should be called a Motel not a Hotel, the TGV passes just beside the (m)hotel, you can hear it night and day.
If you need internet, forget their Wifi connection.. Their poor DSL line bandwidth was 0.1/0.23 Mbps!!! (measured many times a day with speedtest.net).
Receptionist didn't speak English (normal in France) but tried to be friendly (..in his French way of course..)
The restaurant staff was too disorganized, when I've asked "What's the dinner and what's included?" - They pointed to a wall where you can see some dishes written in French (like you should know what it means!), not very helpful for a fogein!
Their "dishes of the day" were a kind of "GOURMET" dishes... When I finished, had to go eat somewhere else.. Dinner (or should I call it "starters"?) was included but I only had it once.
There's nothing around (besides the metro station).
The heater didn't work (in my room at least).

Wouldn't return to Campanile and I'll ask my company to book somewhere else for the next trip to Lille.

Room Tip: 1st floor rooms seemed better, some rooms do not have a closet.

Stayed one night here, on the edge of a retail park, rooms accessed off an external balcony, basic facilities looking a little bit tired but as I paid only £42 for a double room you get what you pay for. Breakfast and evening meal extra in a adjacent restaurant were of good quality. The local retail park has the typical selection of fast food places.
External car parking secured by barrier at night.
OK for one night but would not want to stay here for a long stay

Room Tip: half the rooms face a small lake at the rear and the others look over the carpark and the retail par...

When we went to france we booked a hotel here which was great, the room was clean and we managed to get a good night sleep, but watch out, some staff do try to take money from you by charging you extra, the destination isn't that great either you need to pay the train to go into town due to parking being too expensive if you go there for shopping don't

The photos here don't seem to match this actual hotel/motel. The address is correct though.

I always find Campanile to be a bit sleezy due to the way the hotel is set up with the only outside accessible rooms and the layout of the rooms, but that might be a personal thing. For this stay I didn't have a choice since the rest of the hotels were fully booked already. The rooms are okay in size. Bathroom looks okay, though not completely clean. There's only one electric outlet to be found in the whole room and that's located inconveniently above the toilet. So rely on your laptop batteries if you want to work at the desk as you can't plug in there.

The room has a water cooker so you can make some coffee or tea which is pleasant. The flatscreen TV only has French channels, so no good if you're a foreigner. The wireless internet is free, but highly unstable. Especially during peak hours in the night. Half of the time it doesn't work at all, the other half ifs even too slow to browse the web comfortably, let alone doing anything data intensive like Skype or YouTube which simply will not work.

The rooms are a bit noisy. I could clearly hear my nextdoor neighbour snore and my upstairs neighbour walk around. The hotel lies right next to a train track with heavy freight trains passing by frequently which you will hear in your room. Also located near is a big sized hospital which causes ambulances with sirenes to be heard throughout the whole night. If you're a light sleeper, you will have problems getting your nightrest.

The reception is friendly, though does not speak a word of English. Same goes for the restaurant. They're not very willing to try to communicate with non French speakers too. The food in the restaurant is simply terrible. Only the dessert buffet is acceptable. Since there's nothing even remotely near to this hotel, be adviced to eat something on your way to Campanile.

The hotel is located 5 minutes walking distance from a metro stop. The metro takes you to the Lille Flandres train station, which is located in the heart of the city, in about 20 minutes for 1,40 euro a person, one way. You can buy metro tickets from the machines at the metro station using cash or a bank card. Parking at the hotel is free.

All in all I would not choose this hotel again unless I really need to. It's far away from everything.

On arrival we thought we had pulled up at Butlins but once inside our room/chalet we were pleasantly surprised. Bright and modern, with comfortable beds. Tea tray complete with biscuits. Flat screen TV. Exceptionally clean bathroom with a large walk in shower. The rooms were warm and spotlessly clean. The reception/bar/waiting staff were all very helpful. The food in the restaurant was basic but reasonably priced and good value for money. The breakfast although continental was plentyful. This hotel is on par with a Travelodge or Premier Inn - basic but good value. Can not speak of the area as it was an overnight stop so did not venture out.
