“Delight-full hotel. Splendid architecture.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

A November short break to Lille by Eurostar with my sister was crowned by this fascinating hotel. The brilliant conversion from the historic convent not only looks great, but works well. The mezzanine floor acts as a roof to the centre of the great square space, and the design of seating and room-dividers not only looks good, but provides acoustic environments which allow quiet conversation and a sense of calm. Look out for "before" photos along the corridors. Food and service first class.
There's much to enjoy in Lille, but mostly I'd love an excuse to return to the Couvent des Minimes.

This hotel is located 10 minutes walk from the main shopping area of old lille city centre and 20 minutes walk from the euro rail station.
The entrance to the hotel is discreet but reception is nice with very friendly staff.
The centre of the hotel, and one of its main features, is a large open area which was once the quadrant of the original convent - it is covered over with a conservatory style roof and has a large seating area, bar and restaurant. It is a very nice space to sit in and have a drink or snack.we did not eat in the restaurant but it looked good but quite noisy because of the hard surfaces. You can have breakfast here but at 20 euros each for croissant and coffee (which is all we would want but if you want lots and lots to eat might be good value ) we thought it was not worth it.
We had a superior double room on the first floor, it was very large and spacious but the decoration was a little tired". The bathroom was very nice but there was no bath -only a very large shower. Unfortunately the shower tray drain ran very slow-we did report it but we suspect it is a design fault and there is nothing they can do-it did mean that if had a long shower the water overflowed all over the bathroom floor. There was a mini bar in the room BUT no wine beer or alcohol- we did ask if we could have some put in the fridge but were told we had to use room service (which is very expensive) - for us we just like to come into our room and relax and pour a drink without having to sit and wait for room service(which we found quite slow).
So, not perfect but a nice hotel in a good location for seeing the sites.
All the staff were very friendly.

The heart of this hotel is the beautifully restored square courtyard housing the breakfast, restaurant and bar areas, with a glazed roof. The walls are of red brick, liberally pointed in the Flemish manner, with sumptious colonnades around the edges. I'll return to the restaurant in a separate review, but the bar is exceptionally good. On the evening we had a drink there it was served by one bartender and a waiter, who served a good many customers with impeccable courtesy and efficiency. It wasn't difficult to figure out why the waiter was as slim as a whippet.
There was a very wide choice of breakfasts available and our room and beds were very.comfortable. One very welcome feature was that the loo was separate from the bathroom. The staff, with the exception of one person in the restaurant, were very helpful. Stay there and enjoy exceptional beauty an comfort.

The Couvent is comfortable with friendly professional staff. My room was on the 3rd floor, effectively in the room. It was a good size and quiet. The reception staff speak English and will spend time with you showing you where to visit. Be aware museums are closed on Tuesdays.

The hotel is a 5 minutes walk to the old town and opposite a very good bistro.

It has a car park although there is a daily charge. There is on-road parking around the corner but I doubt you'd get a space.

Stayed for just one night. An old convent turned into a middle class hotel. Small bedrooms (OK, this is France). Clean but not maintained well. Couple of damages in room as well as bathroom. Place needs some paint as well. On the third floor you hardly can open a window.
Good breakfast. Old town on a walking distance. Nice for just one night but there are better places around.

swift hassle free check in. had emailed prior to arrival asking for two rooms together which they honoured. room was clean and well presented. on 2nd floor overlooking the car park. on the large side and the bed was huge. well equipped - TV, kettle etc. wardrobes very stiff to open. breakfast was lovely. Plenty of choice. ran out of pancakes and bacon on the 2nd day. Also had an evening meal here. highly recommend. lovely well presented tasty food. Only a 5 minute walk to the tourist information office and a 2 minute walk to the citade/zoo (well worth a visit) Only one hiccup - as we were checking out both parties (we had two rooms) were presented with a 60 euro bill (120 euros in total) Apparently we had been given a room upgrade but no-one had informed us of this when we checked in. A quick word with the manager and the additional charges were removed. Would we stay again? Yes. If it hadn't been for the mix up on room upgrades I would have graded this as an excellent hotel as against a very good hotel.

I was here during the Braderie weekend and what an oasis of luxury and calm it was!
Breakfast was plentiful and of excellent quality. Staff were friendly and helpful, and my room overlooking the car park was comfortable and quiet. In the restaurant, the 'Braderie Special' of mussels and chips was delicious and good value.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking over the car park, at the back.
