“Not bad but we'll try another hotel next time we are in Lille”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013

This was stay nr. 4 in this hotel and next time we'll try another hotel in Lille. We liked this hotel very much in the past for its superb location (not in the busy centre but a short walk away, next to the citadelpark and zoo) and nice breakfast.
The staff does what they have to do, are friendly but nothing more. We went to Lille to celebrate my birthday and my mother in law her birthday and also our wedding-jubilee (10 years). A couple of days before our stay, my husband sent an e-mail to ask to do something special for the birthdays. He never got an answer. He asked it again at the reception desk, no reaction, not even 'happy birthday' or something...dissapointed. It was 30 degrees outside, and we initialy got rooms with no airco, under the roof, too hot! Luckily, changing rooms was not a problem. The new rooms where on the 'passerelle', this rooms have no outside view, look into the courtyard but have the so much needed airco.
The rooms where ok, everything needed was there (nice bathroom, tea-coffee, safe, mini-bar...) only the hairdryer doesn't work like it should be, couldn't dry my hair with that, didn't blow at al.
Like in my last review of this hotel, I was dissapointed there's no free wifi and the wifi is rather expensive. Also the parking is rather expensive, we parked on the parking of the citadelpark a 2 minute walk away from the hotel. On weekdays it is 4 euros/day and on sundays it is free, we parked the car on saturday and drove out on sunday for free, so we parked the whole weekend for free.

Room Tip: rooms under the roof are cosy but hot in summer (no airco), rooms on the passerelle are a little bit...

This hotel is in a good location in that it's away from the hustle and bustle of the main squares but an easy walk to get there. It's on a (now blocked off) quay, which makes it quite picturesque, and is 2 minutes walk from the Canal de la Deule, which is very attractive and peaceful.

This is a city hotel made from a converted convent, so the rooms are small (at least the standard ones are) with very little natural light. However the public area in what was the cloister is bright and airy under a huge atrium. Here they have the bar and the restaurant (which also has a terrace area, which is very pleasant on a warm evening).

Pros:
Good location, which is quiet because it's not on a main road. It's also in an attractive area on an old disused canal quay.
Good breakfast
Trouser press and tea-making equipment in the bedroom (how very British)
Very pleasant and helpful staff
Very good food in the restaurant (though not cheap)
Effective air-conditioning (but can't really control it)

Cons:
High charge for WiFi. For this alone I would not return to this hotel. In the 21st century it is simply not acceptable for a hotel to charge its guests for a WiFi service.
No shelf space or drawers in the bedroom! I've been in much better appointed cruise ship cabins.
Bar doesn't know how to make good cocktails (steer clear of the Margarita and the Pimms with champagne)
Staff at breakfast were very slow to clear away used crockery from the table. They seemed a little under-staffed.
There was a machine in the bathroom like you find in office toilets, that periodically sprays something hygienic. Trouble is that it wheezes and sounds like an asthmatic duck sneezing every 10 or 15 minutes, right through the night. It woke me regularly even with the bathroom door closed. I'm a light sleeper so this may not affect everyone.
No working fan in the bathroom so it steamed up rapidly
The shower head was damaged (or badly worn) so you couldn't get a decent shower. However the water was hot and plentiful so if you want to run around in the bath to get wet, you can.

Would I stay there again? No, probably not. I am sure there are much better appointed hotels in Lille and the pros don't really outweigh the cons.

We stayed here for a couple of nights to celebrate a 60th birthday. Had dinner in the hotel on our first evening - very good and a good wine list too. Waiting staff all very helpful and were very good at multi-tasking! The hotel itself has been very well converted - the atrium is superb. The bar had a wide selection of wines and champagnes by the glass and is a really lovely space to relax in.

Hotel location is good - quiet but easy walking distance to anything you might want to see in Lille itself.

Had a day in Lille and am glad that we chose to stay at Couvent des Minimes - Alliance. Delightful place. My work at the University was on Monday morning and having arrived from Paris the previous noon, we had half a day to walk around the city. The small lake in front of the hotel is pretty but looks a bit brackish. The bar under the dome is adequately stocked and the restaurant went out of its way to help some of us with vegetarian dinner. The staff were very cordial. Would certainly recommend this place to all those visiting Lille on short visits.

We stayed at the Couvent des Minimes for 3 nights as part of a City Break. It was a truly marvellous experience. It is an unusual and memorable building, and one of the nicest hotels in which we have ever stayed. The glass-roofed atrium is a wonderful feature, containing a comfortable bar with a wide range of cocktails, wines and Belgian and French beers. The seats are extremely comfortable and hours can be whiled away listening to the pianist in a relaxed and happy atmosphere. We found all the staff to be helpful and delightful. We had dinner in the hotel one evening: the food was quite superb. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the Centre of Lille, on an attractive and quite peaceful quayside. Our room was comfortable, and it was lovely to drift off to sleep to piano music drifting up from the atrium! We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and would have no hesitation in returning and recommending it to all our friends. Apart from the slightly temperamental Wi-Fi connection, we had a perfect experience!

I booked this as a 3 night package to include the Eurotunnel fair. With the price paid I was expecting little more than a broom cupboard. When we arrived we were pleasantly greeted by reception. Our room was on the first floor and was extremely spacious. The shower was a large walk-in one with plenty of space, a large sink area and mirror, complete with built in hairdryer. The toilet was separate which I haven't seen for a long time but definitely convenient. The room had air conditioning, large windows, more than plently of wardrobe space. The building itself is beautiful and has retained it's many features. It is well located and just a 5 minute walk to the centre of Lille (even in high heals). My only negative comments would be the price of the parking at 18 euros a night and the price of the drinks in the bar. However if you want to stay in a high quality hotel then that's what you must expect so I have no complaint. We will definitely be returning.

Stayed for a single evening whilst on a business trip to Lille.

Reception staff are welcoming and speak good English. Wireless internet provided when checking in. Room is a good size, large bed and a good view of the town outside. Only ate for breakfast and a good selection of food was available.

Room was very clean, as were the premises in general. I didn't use any spa/pool/fitness facilities.

Would recommend this hotel.
