We were wandering around the old town in Toulouse the day after Christmas rejecting one restaurant or cafe after another, too bland, too noisy, too Italian, no atmosphere, full, when we fell on Le May. It was packed at lunchtime but they squeezed us into their back room. So far as I could see, we were the only foreigners. There was a very limited but interesting menu. Service was brisk but not hassling. They forgot to bring my husband the beer he had ordered, but being the day after Christmas neither of us was desperate for alcohol. The owner had a fifties rocker hairstyle. Staff were attentive and friendly.
