The Place du Capitole is a broad plaza in the best Italian tradition, and is a great place to sit or stand for people watching. But the real treat here is Toulouse's City Hall, which not only houses the city's opera performances but also is a tourist site all its own. It's free and open to the public, and worth a good half-hour of your time to walk up the broad stairs and into the public galleries. [It's also a popular place to get married, and once you're there you can understand why.]
