“Outstanding dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013 via mobile

We were visiting Toulouse while on a tour. We were looking for a very good restaurant near the Crowne Plaza Hotel and found excellent reviews on trip advisor for the Winter Garden. The reviews seemed too good to be true, so I had to see for myself. Prior to the restaurant opening, my wife and I walked around the corner to check it out. The restaurant is a charming little place with about 40 seats. We met the owner, Rene and his two sons Max and Matthew. They explained to us that the restaurant had been open for four months. However, they have owned other restaurants in the past. We decided to make a reservation for the following evening.
OMG! Every previous positive review was correct! The food and service was incredible. Matt and Matthew and Rene do everything possible to make sure you are pleased with every part of your meal. They make you feel like family. They explain everything on the menu in both french or english and even tell you how things are prepared. I would give them a 10, if I could. Be sure to make a reservation because the restaurant was full the night we were there.

“Good service and good food, with a passion to make the customer satisfied!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013 via mobile

Excellent food and service. With my "Gluten Free" needs, they took the trouble to explain the menu. The house wine was lovely and the prices very reasonable. The food was home made, including the fries and deserts (some larger restaurants cut corners and buy in some of their items "ready made"! The ambience was fine, but I was a bit too early for the atmosphere of late diners. Great background music and a really happy feel to the place. Merci!

“A definite must-eat in Toulouse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013

Every time we go to the Winter garden, our dinner has been nothing short of amazing.

Between the impeccable interior, the superb gratin dauphinois, the excellent quality of the produce and preparations and a service that merits a visit in its own regard, there is nothing bad to be said about this place.

Honest to goodness food, no unneccesary frills, a real pearl in a city already full of good restaurants.

“As Good as it Gets?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2013

As with all great gastronomic secrets, The Winter Garden is located one street behind the central magnificent Place du Capitole. Stand under the Capitolium clock and admire the arched frontage of the impressive building opposite where Toulousian’s and tourists eat and drink both inside and out under huge parasol protected areas enjoying the square’s ever changing persona. Cross the square to the left arch and follow the Rue Leon Gambetta to the first junction on the left with Rue des Gestes where the restaurant will be evident.
René, the charismatic owner and his loyal team are a well established and highly respected part of the restaurant scene of this great city. They have only recently transformed this property into a bistro restaurant and already reservation is to be advised. The hand written trademark menus will be enthusiastically individually and painstakingly translated and explained to you so you are left in no doubt that every member of staff is proud to be associated with the fare on offer.
Scotch fillet, Scottish salmon. Dijon-fashion breast of duck, Italian-style beef tartar, Stendhal flank steak and poultry supreme with Winter stuffing and mushroom cream are among the main courses to savour, a personal favourite with any of the later is melt in the mouth dauphinoise potatoes. Starters are light and refreshing and deserts well thought out and of a reasonable size to enjoy. Wine is available from a single glass upwards at sensible prices for good quality. If in doubt selecting, have no fear consulting staff to recommend their best food/wine combinations.
Never once have I left the Winter Garden (or indeed René’s previous establishment during his residency) without feeling that the service received was personal and that every member of staff went out of their way to ensure that the whole experience provided to both myself and every member of my party was of the highest standard. Dare I suggest “as good as it gets”?

“Wonderful food but what sets it apart is the enthusiasm of the staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013 via mobile

Arrived just as the restaurant was opening, despite getting used to late night dining, we were still early! Waiter, one of the owners, set us up with a glass of white wine, and soon sat down to explain his menu, mostly in English as our French is only partially functional. He recommended the ravioli appetizer which was wonderful, and then proceeded to the Rossini of beef and a veal stuffed chicken breast, accompanied by the best potato Dauphin we have ever had. He returned several times, twice to see how we were fairing and to recommend a digestif. The whole establishment hummed with good humor of people enjoying themselves--students, a few tourists and families. A high point of our trip to the South of France.
