“Great Location, Iffy service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2012

I picked the Hotel du Taur for the price and the location. Both were reasonable, but there are also definite drawbacks to the hotel. I realized that it was only a two star hotel, but had no idea that you had to climb up a stairway to the second floor to reach the lobby. The rooms were clean and adequate, although mine faced an airshaft that let in some light and adequate air, but certainly didn't qualify as a view. I had breakfast the first morning, and it seemed OK, but I found it easier to get something at a cafe or patisserie afterward, because the price seemed a bit high for what I was getting. Service at the desk was spotty. I kept getting different information, and the degree of helpfulness and friendliness at the desk was quite variable. They do offer a nice computer with printer for short-term guest use, and there's wifi in the seating area. It was good for a first visit, but after walking around I think I'd try other hotels in the area in the future.

Room Tip: Try to get one that faces the large courtyard closer to the Capitole Square. I was able to see seve...

I stayed at the Hotel du Taur for 4 nights and couldn't have wanted a better hotel. The staff were very friendly and the breakfasts were excellent. The hotel was conveniently located for the centre of Toulouse and there were many excellent restaurants within easy walking distance. I would happily use the hotel again if I was lucky enough to have another trip to Toulouse.

If you're looking for a well-situated hotel in Toulouse with affordable prices, you're right at the Hotel du Taur. Regarding all the great reviews I read here, I wonder whether I stayed in another hotel, though.

The lady at the front desk was really quite unpleasant and snappy. Not really professional, if you're working in tourism. When I asked her, whether there was Wifi in the rooms, she told me in a rude kind of way that they only had internet in the "common room" and that it was clearly mentioned on their website.
At my arrival I thought: Great, a nice bath tub and so clean! When I wanted to take a bath though, I realized that the water didn't heat up at all. The next morning I still had no hot water. When I mentioned this inconvenient aspect during check-out the next day, I was told that it was perfectly normal to let the water run for 5 minutes until the hot water reaches my room, since the house was so old. Funny enough I live in an ancient 6-story-house in Paris on the 6th floor myself - I do have hot water whenever I like.
My room was quite shabby and really needs renovation. Nothing like in the pictures. Furthermore, I had a very nice roommate: a caterpillar right next to my bed. I do understand that spiders might come in when it gets cold outside. Caterpillars in a hotel room in the city centre I find rather alarming...

I liked the hotel generally, it is very well located. BUT my bathroom was extremely small, with the WC in a corner where you couldn't even fit your knees. Additionally, discharging the WC produced never-heard-before noise...

This is a very good budget hotel beside Place Du Capitole. We stayed in a cosy triple room which was cleaned every day of our stay and towels were replaced daily. The rooms were basic with T.V, high ceilings and shuttered windows which added to the character of the hotel. Breakfast was self service and very sufficient. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Our room was very peaceful at night and we never disturbed by any other guests at nightime during our stay.
Would highly recommend this budget hotel and hope to return.
At Toulouse airport exit at gate C, take airport " Tisseo "shuttle-bus to Jeanne D`Arc bus stop(cost 5 euros and you can buy ticket from driver) and follow signs to Place Du Capitole. Hotel Du Taur is located just off main square.

Room Tip: Book well in advance

My boyfriend and I only stayed here for one night as we were visiting friends before heading to Paris. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. It was nice to see that the hotel was keen on conserving energy and used only green products. Our room was disappointing as the room was literally on an angle which made the bed on an angle. The "double" bed wasn't even a full size bed as my boyfriend's feet were hanging off and he's your average 6'-0" tall man. The hotel is in an amazing location being 2 minutes from the centre, a 5 minute walk to the metro and shops, restaurants, boulangerie/patisseries around the corner. Given that Rue du Taur is the oldest street in the city I understand that the hotel is old, but the state of the rooms isn't acceptable. They are in desperate need for a reno. The walls had cracks in them due to shifts in the building foundation and the angled room was really weird. Needless to say we didn't have a great nights' sleep. The room was clean, but everything was so dated it wasn't very pleasant. We booked this hotel because it was steps from our friends' apartment, the location was ideal and the price was great, but I would have to say I'd pay more for a better kept hotel. We wouldn't stay here again and would not recommend this hotel to others unless of course it got renovated as the staff and location were great.

The locatiion, in a quiet pedestrian street just off the Place Capitole, could not be better. Our room was at the back, and very quiet. The room and en suite bathroom were a bit shabby but quite clean and functional, and the bed was comfortable. Reception was up a flight of stairs - not good if you have heavy luggage
