“First rate museum, to my surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

This looked unpromising, as a museum of antiquities (yawn) but it is a wonderful smallish museum with a huge amount about a truly amazing villa estate that was in Toulouse. There are countless lively statues and portraits and objects salvaged from this place, which clearly belonged to a super rich tycoon type ROman. I really got a feeling of wealthy expatriate Roman life from viewing it all. The museum has been modernised very well and has numerous other exhibits. Toulouse is a really, really old place despite the fact that a lot of it (outside the old centre) looks modern and rather ugly now. I was delighted I'd stumbled more or less accidentally on this museum, I only went in it because I had nothing else to do and it was raining, but I am very glad I did go.

“Loved the Roman busts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

Interesting to see the history of Toulouse from Roman days to present. Great busts of all of the Roman leaders, lined up in order of their reigns.

“A Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2012

Small, but engaging for a morning/afternoon.
Fascinating collection, spread over three floors, made very accessible by an excellent audioguide in a choice of languages. Good value at only 3 Euro entry and 2 Euro for the audioguide. The necropolis atrefacts in the basement are well displayed in suitable surroundings, and the Roman sculptures on the first floor are in a well lit windowed room ideal for purpose.
A short walk from the Capitoleum, and easy to find as immediately adjacent to the Saint Sernin Basilique - also worth a visit.
No cafe, but several to choose from in the immediate vicinity.
Staff spoke little English, but made every effort to be helpful.
Read up beforehand about the Labours of Hercules, the Emperor Augustus and his relatives, and the Emperors Marcus Aurelius, Trajan and Commodius to impress fellow visitors.
