“Nice stop on the road to Spain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2011

We stayed in les Vieilles Tours halfway on our trip from Belgium to Tarragona in Spain. The hotel is very well located , not too far from the highway , and very close to the "Must see" medieval village of Rocamadour. Very nice room with a lot of space , nice quiet garden, view over the surroundings and , best of all , a very good restaurant with nice local ingredients and a good selection of the local wines. The friendly staff arranges a perfect stop on a long journey

We did not stay in the hotel, but had a memorable lunch at Les Vieilles Tours with a group of family and friends. It certainly made us want to go back, and stay. Laurent arranged a super lunch for 18 of us, on the wonderful terrace, overlooking the pool and valley beyond. I had searched online for months, looking for a restaurant with a terrace, and fabulous view. Laurent and his staff, and Cathy, his wife, went out of their way to take good care of us, and we thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food and wines. It was a relaxing, amusing, and very satisfying day, which ended with a brief visit to an old flour mill, just down the road, which Laurent recommended to us. We will DEFINITELY be back.

- Amazing views and a quiet location but only just down the road from Rocamadour which is a must to visit
- Great pool overlooking the valley
- Amazing food and great variety
- Superb hosts that were very friendly and accommodating and went out of their way to look after me - Laurent, the owner, even helped me book my onward accommodation in France, taking an hour out of his busy day to do so
- Really friendly atmosphere

Overall a great experience and a must if you are staying in the area.

What a lovely place, the food was great, the service awesome and the view just wonderful. We travelled with a horse mad child and when we checked in we asked if there was any possibility of a trail ride or something similar. Immediately a brochure was produced and a phone called made and it was organized for the next day.
The ride was just lovely (we highly recommend it) but it was the personalized service organizing it was above what we were expecting. When we returned home there were some pic's of Rocamadour taking from a hot air balloon in my emails as we had had a conversation about it when we were checking out.
The dinners where great and we are going to try and come back next year.

We stayed at Les Vieilles Tours for five nights and had an absolutely wonderful time exploring the Lot region of France. Our first trip from the hotel was to Rocamadour...and Laurent, who runs the hotel with his wife, Cathy, gave us wonderful guidance about how to see this impressive sight with the most pleasure. What he also told us about was the popularity of this site...and having seen it, we were both glad we did and very, very glad that we did not stay in the town itself.
Laurent's advice about where and when to visit different towns and sights continued to be excellent and enormously useful.
Les Vieille Tours itself is located in a splendid area: quiet, peaceful, and beautiful. We stayed in the tour suite which I recommend fully...comfortable bed, modern bath, lovely sitting room where we had drinks with friends who traveled with us. Some of the other rooms, though comfortable, are not as luxurious, but I understand from Laurent that he is in the process of remodeling them.
The food each night was excellent; one of our friends was not a meat eater and Laurent arranged for some special meals.
Finally, there is a lovely swimming pool on site with a super-abundance of fresh, fluffy towels and a nearby shower.
All in all, a wonderful experience.
If you go, don't miss the town of Figeac and the Pech Merle cave.

We originally booked 2 nights in the best available room but due to problems with our itinerary, we found we could only stay 1 night and called 3 days prior to our arrival to inform them. We were offered a suite for the first night. When we arrived and saw the dinner menu, it did not appeal and we advised them we would be eating out
We were taken to a depressing and dirty room in the original stables. The tiles in the bathroom had black milldew, the paint work was dirty and peeling, the bath had black patches where the fibreglass was missing, there was no hook for the shower, no shower curtain, there were hairs in the bath and sink, no soap and the container for the 1 bottle of shampoo was covered in black mould. The rugs at the side of the bed were filthy, the pillows were foam with app 3 cms remaining.
We mentioned to the owner that we had been offered a suite and were quite happy to pay extra. He became extremely aggressive, said he'd already let it to somebody else as we'd changed our booking to 1 night duration and he shouted that we should 'get out' if we didn't like it. We were both extremely tired as we had driven a fair distance otherwise we would have left immediately
I have never encountered such unpleasant behaviour nor stayed in such a dirty hotel. I have no idea why this place has been given a 3* rating when we don't believe it even merits 1*and we were so upset that we have reported this whole matter to the tourist board
I would warn any fellow travellers to be aware of the poor standards of the average room (maybe the suite would have been better) and above all, the attitude of the proprietor

Les Vielles Tours is a hidden gem. It is situated in a hamlet, approximately 2 miles from the lovely town of Rocamadour. As the name suggests the property has two towers,we were lucky enough to have a suite in one of them for one night and cannot think of anything which could detract from our experience. The suite had its own living room and a very comfortable bed.Only the sounds of birds could be heard.
From the moment that I booked the accomodation with the owner it was a smooth experience, included in the price was a meal for two at the hotel restaurant. The hotel owner appreciated our poor attempts to speak French, but to assist us in our choice of meal had to hand an English menu. The food was superb, as was the advice on local Cahors wines. The restaurant is small and intimate, all the other guests were French and all ate in the restaraunt. Before taking our meal we had an aperitif on the hotel terrace which overlooks the swimming pool and a beautiful valley.
We booked the hotel as an overnight stay before hiring a gite in the Lot Valley, our experience there made it the perfect start to our holiday and we would return at the drop of a hat
