“Avoid for Transport”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2014

There is plenty of free parking at the base of Rocamadour and a small train comes here to provide transport for visitors up a hill to the start of the village's main street. In June, it cost 2.50 E to go one-way and was absolutely not worth it for us. From the base, it looks like a long way up the hill, but I think it would have taken under 10 minutes to walk the actual short distance. The ride ends quickly and there is no commentary along the way. Once at the village, it is possible to take two separate elevators (each requires a fee) to reach the ramparts or to simply walk up. Those with mobility difficulties would, of course, benefit from using the train for the first stage of their journey.

“Sure beats walking!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2014

When visiting Rocamadour, the easy place to park is in the valley below the town. You are then faced with the decision about how to get up to the village. Le Petit Train is the sane answer. Running every 15 minutes, return ticket is the way to go.

“Alright...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

It cost 3 euros per head and we assumed it would take us to pretty much the top, but it took about 5 minutes and wasn't worth the money because we could have easily walked that distance. It was a really hot day and the train wasn't shaded so the seat was so hot when you sat down on it. If you want to use a form of transport to get to the top, walk instead of the train and then get the left from there to the next place, and the lift/ski lift thing to get right to the top, and then just walk down.

“Only if it hurts”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

At our hotel in Sarlat, we were advised to drive right through to the bottom of the hill and park for free in the huge field, where we could get the lotto type train. At three euros a head, it seemed good value for a tour of the town - except....there is no tour. The train simply takes you 150 yards
back up the hill to the town gate, whereupon everybody disembarks with a bemused air of surprise. I'm all for the easy option but I have to say this was the fastest way for my wife and I to waste six euros. I can only recommend it for those that have any kind of mobility impairment, and if that should be the case, then Rocamadour should only be admired from afar, as It's all steps and slopes, as to be expected for a village chopped into a cliff. Avoid the heaving tourists and head for Domme instead. So much nicer.
