The central square in Mirepoix is well worth a visit. at first glance it is quite touristic with shops and cafés all around. Lovely medieval buildings with overhanging first floors. My American friend asked if it was all 'real'. i think she thought it had been built specially - Disney style!!! On a nice day it's a great place to sit and have a drink, have lunch and watch the world go by.Children can play happily in the square while you're doing this as it is quite safe. There is also a little merri-go-round.A lot of shops and cafés are closed on Tuesdays as Monday is the market day. There are a lot of things to do in Mirepoix during the summer. I highly recommend the pottery market. Don't forget to have a look inside the cathedaral before you leave and there is a small swimming pool near the centre of town if you fancy a dip to cool off.
