We booked our holiday on the strength of the reviews and we weren't disappointed. Such wonderful holiday memories - Peta, Steve, John & Leona couldn't have been more welcoming, helpful with advice & really nothing seemed too much trouble or too trivial - and our deligthful chalets tucked away in the stream meadow were a real treat. Simply furnished but so well equipped with oodles of hot water and two showers between the four of us (luxury), the beds were so comfy we overslept on our first morning and nearly missed breakfast up at the main house!
It was a real treat having the bistro restaurant on hand - a welcome barbeque when we arrived was lovely after a very long drive and a chance to meet other visitors & make new friends, breakfast on Sunday as we hadn't had time to do a food shop en route & a wonderful pizza evening when the children made their own pizzas followed by a huge campfire under a perfect starfield which helpfully obliged with a few shooting stars. Sounds idyllic? It is!!
Whilst this is a great holiday destination for families its also super for a quiet break - we really fancy sneaking off for a childfree break in the B & B to sample some more of Peta & Steve's excellent fare.
We haven't mentioned the area, which is an oversight, its beautiful with loads to do whether its walking & cycling or exploring the chateaux & markets or the lakes where you can swim & kayak. A visit to Orador sur Glane (the martyr village) was both memorable & shocking, but in reality we found it hard to leave La Ferme du Lac - its that magical - so we'll have to return again to explore it further.
Thank you Peta, Steve, John & Leona for a wonderful holiday, you obviously work really hard to give everyone such a great time so we'd like you to know that its very much appreciated. Our final word goes to Wolfie the dog, he appeared punctually every breakfast time and whenever the barbeque was lit - you were great company & gave us the dog fix we needed when we were missing ours, we're sorry we never fed you tibits but we were under strict instructions, honest!!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Family run, La Ferme du Lac is a 17th century restored farmhouse nestling at the bottom of a 25 acre wooded valley in one of the most beautiful areas of France. The location is stunning, a private valley with a dammed lake at one end, farmhouse and out-buildings in the middle and a riverside meadow with cottages and camping spaces. What more could you ask for! The night sky at La Ferme du Lac is phenomenal. Equally you will find the sunsets to be magnificent, and the sunrises are pretty spectacular too. The early morning mist rolling off the lake, with kingfishers flying by, is a sight to behold. All in all La Ferme du Lac is the ideal place for a family holiday in high season, and while children are always welcome it tends to be couples and groups that we see out of the high season. ... more less
