“Fascinating castle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

This was really interesting, and cheap to enter too. It wasn't well signposted - we walked around most of the outer walls before finding a way in but once in we loved it. It was a little sparse on the English translations and explanations. We were intrigued by the way some of the buildings had been used or had been extended over the centuries and would have liked to have known more, but there was no-one who could speak enough English to answer our questions. Maybe there could have been more descriptions at the entrance to each room - they have them in French, so why not in other languages?

“A tour into past greatness”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

Though the buidings is not packed with gold and jewels, a microgram of imagination fastly brings you back to the past greatness of this place. With its heavy walls, this castle was a sequre stronghold for the king of Mallorca. A deep and wide moat, further keeps the inner castle safe from invasion. Besides the Kings and Queens quarters (sparsly decorated) the inner castle holds two small but beautiful churches, with exquisit paintings on the walls and ceilings, and colourfull mosaik floors and windows.
The kids loved to run around in the Castle, and the city view from the windows were worth the trip itself. Seen from a historical point of view the trip was very interesting, it is clear to follow the different stages the castle has went througt, and the reconstructions has been done beautifully.
I recommend everyone to swing by this castle.

“Wonderful view of Perpignant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

The caslte in itself is quite average - but if you are in Perpignant do go and visite. It takes less than an hour, but is gives you a wonderful view of the city - and some of the history from the time this was a part of the kingdom of Mallorca (and of Aragon). They have an information sheet in english that you can take along with you on the visite - and do it in your own pace.

Our kids love running through this Palace. The views from the roofs are incredible. Well worth the difficulty of finding the entrance!

“Historically Interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2012

This palace more than any other building in Perpignan gives an insight into the fascinating history of the old capital of Catalonia. Well worth a visit. We saw a Son et Lumiere here - the evening we went it was in Catalan and none the worse for that!
