“Nice Hotel Central Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2010

Stayed in the Mercure on a weekend away with family to the area or Perpignan. Check in wasn't great. The receptionist saw us waiting then went into the back then came back after 5 minutes and didn't seem very happy. The reception area is a bit old fashioned but still clean and tidy. The rooms are nice and modern as have recently been refurbished. Room had flat screen TV and a mini bar. Bathroom was clean and had bath/shower. breakfast was not included as you had to pay around £15.00 per night for this and it was not worth that price. Parking is free but it is an underground car park with a small entrance so not easy if you have a big car. There is a public car park over the road but you have to pay for that. The location is great and it is just over the road from the centre and castle. There are loads of restaurants and bars to go to in the evening and the night life is pretty good for teens/adults. The town also has quite a lot of shops and is bigger than I thought it would be. It is about 20/30 minute drive to the nearest beach. Overall the hotel has great rooms and a great location and doesn't cost too much. Would Recommend for a short stay.

We spent four nights in a standard room on the fifth floor. Our view was over the canal at the back of the hotel. The location was within walking distance of most of the major sights and had several good nearby restaurants.
The room was a reasonable size, with two single beds joined together, adequate shelf/drawer/hanging space and plenty of desktop space. There were also tea/coffee making facilities and the air-conditioning worked.
The bathroom on the other hand was very small and had definitely seen better days, although clean and containing everything it needed to.
Small points on the negative side:- the only mirror was in the bathroom and the ceiling entry light was so dim that we literally could not see what was which when the wardrobe doors were open.
The buffet breakfast was included in the price of our room and had a reasonable selection, including warm pancakes.

I selected this hotel for its position which was ideal for getting around Perpignan
It was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was small, but well designed to maximise the space available.
The breakfast was okay with a reasonable choice on offer
The bar had limited stocks and opening hours but was adequate for our purposes.
It was unfortunate that my wife left her bag in the bar after it had closed and by next morning it had gone. I can only conclude that it had been stolen. This was not the fault of the hotel, but the staff did not seem unduly concerned, in marked contrast to the staff of the restaurant "La Passerelle" next door, who could not have been more sympathetic.
nevertheless, the hotel was fine overall for our purposes

Perfectly comfortable hotel in a great location for visiting the old town. The room was comfortable and the bed appeared to be very new-6ft wide and memory foam. Very comfortable compared with many hotel beds.
Sadly the air conditioning was not working at all throughout the whole of our stay and the hotel was very hot! The entrance doors were permanently open and as we walked in, we were greeted by many small flies! We were lucky to have a room facing north so the room didn't get too hot during the day but we had to have the window wide open at night which meant outside noise disturbed our sleep. We were surprised we were not offered a reduced rate or free breakfast to compensate for the lack of air con as this amenity was an important factor in our choice of a hotel for our trip.
The hotel lift is very shabby and rather smelly and the carpet in the lift is very dirty. We thought we must be in the service lift initially!
Had all amenities been working I would have no reservation in recommending this hotel but check all is working before booking or arrange a reduced rate if not.

There are no 4 star hotels in the centre of Perpignan, so we chose this as being - we thought - the best of the 3 star choices. I suspect we were wrong.
The rooms are small and tired looking; the air conditioning was not working in temperatures of almost 30C (82F) - something I feel strongly should be conveyed to clients at the time of booking or soonest possible afterwards; there are very limited facilties; the buffet breakfast is expensive for is contents; the car parking problems have be outlined in earlier reviews.
On the plus side, the staff are friendly and helpful, but one instinctively feels that they are only too aware of this hotel's shortcomings.
Having stayed at many Mercure hotels, this one is certainly below par and I suggest that the ratings authorities should look urgently at either downgrading this Mecure to 2 stars or else insisting on immediate improvements.

We stayed here for the Rugby League, it is ideally located to the ground and centre of Perpignan, it is very typical of a business type chain hotel with average sized rooms and bathroom, it was clean and tidy, the bed was a good size and comfortable.
The window was small which made the room dark, and the air conditioning was completely useless, only one English channel on the TV which should be expected as it is in France, parking is underground and only good for small cars, anything larger than a Focus it becomes very difficult to manoeuvre.
The corridor to the bedroom was lit up by led lights so made it very dark and we could not even see our door lock.
Breakfast was a typical continental affair; it just needed replenishing more often.
The staff overall were friendly apart from maybe the young lady at breakfast who did not really want to be there.
For a short break and location I would stay here again.

After checking out the locations of a number of hotels, I chose the Kyraid across the street, which is very poor, so for the same price I moved to the Mercure.

It was a bit far coming from the train station, about a 15-20 minute walk, but excellent for exploring the old city, and the areas surrounding it. You are on the edge of a very nice park, which is shaped like a tadpole, with the hotel at the tip of it's tail. Walking away from the old city (which is directly across the street), you are a five minute walk to the river.

The room is the usual Mercure quality, only kind of small compared to others in the chain. I was alone, but with two people it would have been cramped. I chose a more expensive chain because I wanted aircon, and a break from traditional hotels (which have far more character).
The walls are good, and windows keep out all the noise.

Overall, it is a good choice for the comfort, quiet, aircon, and location.
