Never having got the hang of French restaurants and their opening times we nervously chose the first restaurant we set eyes on upon our arrival in Nimes. We had read reviews about the pricey restaurants near the Arena area where we were staying, but we were hungry, and had all too often missed the rigidly kept times when French restaurants will actually feed you. First impressions were not great: a simple menu, hardly any guests, and seating by a busy road. However, the staff were friendly and the food was fine. We sat overlooking the amazing Nimes Arena, the best preserved Roman amphiteatre in the world, about 15 metres away. Later that day we discovered that the prices charged in the 3 Maures compared very well with other Nimes restaurants, and we went back for another nice meal.
