“A modern tribute to an old city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

Standing on a square right across from 'Maison Carrée', this modern building started a controversy at its beginning. But Norman Foster was able to blend the new with the old like Pei's Pyramids at Le Grand Louvre in Paris. And now that 'Maison Carrée' has been cleaned to its original whiteness, it shows that modernism can match antiquity at its best. 'Carré d'Art' is a public library & a modern museum, but do not miss the top floor café with its large terrace that offers a superb and dramatic view over 'Maison Carrée' and the city roofs & steeples.

“A modern art gallery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

A fabulous modern building which houses the public library , bull fighting exhibition in the basement(free) and a contemporary art gallery (costing 5 euros to see the exhibits on the top two floors). If you are interested in art, it is worth a trip, ending up in the cafe on the top floor terrace overlooking the maison carree.

“tesco arcitecture”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

the restaurant good views food once local now pretentious and expensive, the building resembling tesco stores in england not worthy of nimes. made of glass it achieves the impossible by having a gloomy interior ,the gallery space is basic and totally uninspired its a shame the corinthian maison carre is opposite as it is a stark reminder of the tawdriness of the present compared to the splendour of the past

“Cool, chic interior”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

Visiting the Carré d'Art is a must when visiting the Maison Carrée across the road. The interior is beautiful and cool, with free art exhibitions and rooms where you can relax and read the day's press at leisure. The bathrooms were clean and it's worthwhile to make use of these facilities rather than paying to use a less-hygienic public bathroom. When I visited the Carré d'Art, there were expositions of graffiti-like art and a photo-exhibition of African pottery and the female potters

“Drink on the Balcony”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2012

Worth a visit to see the Normal Foster designed building and to have a drink on the balcony. Excellent views and a drink of one of the dark beers makes a worthwhile trip.
