Standing on a square right across from 'Maison Carrée', this modern building started a controversy at its beginning. But Norman Foster was able to blend the new with the old like Pei's Pyramids at Le Grand Louvre in Paris. And now that 'Maison Carrée' has been cleaned to its original whiteness, it shows that modernism can match antiquity at its best. 'Carré d'Art' is a public library & a modern museum, but do not miss the top floor café with its large terrace that offers a superb and dramatic view over 'Maison Carrée' and the city roofs & steeples.
