Owner description: The Arènes of Nîmes is the best preserved amphitheatre in the Roman world. A contemporary of the Colosseum at Rome, it provides an exceptional example of Roman civilisation. The audio-guided and illustrated tour lets visitors experience the gladiator shows and life in Roman times. The gladiator's quarters presents the weapons and techniques of gladiatorial combat, and the Colours of the Bullfighting space introduces you to this world through the magnificent costumes of toreros.

“Just incredible!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

The arena dominates the town, it is an incredible structure, especially considering its age and what it has been through. The structure is largely complete and the self guided tour is very well laid out. There is an audio tour option but the information boards were extremely good on their own.
At night it is lit up too, very pretty.

“Lovely Arena in the center of Nimes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

A visit to Nimes, a quaint historic town is not complete without a trip into the arena! the Arena is just off a major park like area where there is a great fountain, lovely old church and eateries. We looked around and headed for the arena. For a fee we were able to explore to our hearts content. The arena resembles the coliseum in rome but is smaller. There are many areas for you to explore and climb up to the very top for a view of the city. Today the arena has been renovated and is used for Bull fights....I would love to be here for one! The arena has good directions for what you can see, clean bathrooms and a gift shop. Definitely worth a stop!

“Spectacular”

I really want to see a bull fight in this arena. It is bigger than Arles and really stands up impressively

“Complete Coliseum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

It is so impressive ... You can EASILY spend several hours going through the different parts of it all nicely done in sections. It looks like the Coliseum (I mean Coliseum in Rome) but it is complete! It is remarkable. It is opened. Really! I can recommend you to visit some events at the arenes de Nimes ( there are many concerts, spectacles etc, especially in summer). Unfortunately we could't enter inside, there were no available tickets (concert). But it was really exciting!

“Arenes Nimes”

This is a fantastic place, arguably the best arena still in existence. Where else can you walk in the footsteps of our Roman forebears.
