“Really bad hostel without ambition”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014

Service was really bad, there was never anyone in reception. Even though it says check-in is from 2 pm I didn't get to go to my room until 4 pm. Really hard to find, cause there are hardly any signs leading to the hostel. Shared bathrooms are often far away from the room and not very good, showers were quite disgusting. There were no towels, not even to rent, so remember to bring your own! The rooms varied quite a lot (had to change from my first room cause key card didn't work), some are alright for a hostel, others not. Not soundproof at all, you could hear everything from the corridor. Breakfast extremely basic. All in all, a hostel completely without ambition and not worth the money, in fact the worst one I've stayed in in Europe.

Very basic. Too expensive for what it is. I stayed on 1st floor and there are no bathroom facilities so everyone shares upstairs-there are separate facilities for guys and girls but there are only 2 showers so not enough. Plus they are disgusting, old and when I did take a shower I left my socks on because it was so gross. Didn't feel clean after. Stayed in dorm with 5 other beds (all female). Beds are comfy enough for a few nights I guess! The wifi didn't work for me for the first few days of my stay but weirdly, and this might be a good tip for others, I went up the hill to the laundry place with free wifi and after that the wifi in the hostel worked. Maybe that was just lucky for me but its worth a try. If not there is an internet cafe nearby. Found the staff quite abrupt. I've stayed in loads of hostels travelling before but this one is the worst by far. Not a hostel vibe, everyone keeps to themselves, staff not very friendly and overly expensive for what it is. I recommend maybe looking into a B&B out of the centre which may well be around the same price and using the tram system to get into the centre which takes such little time and is so easy. Also there are no cooking facilities like you might expect in a hostel, only a microwave.
Only good thing is location. Only a couple of tram stops away from the Comedie and 3 stops away from train station.
Not easy to find though. I got a taxi on arrival (the taxis have to drop you quite far away anyway cos of restrictions) but to save 10euro here are some simple instructions: Come out of train station and cross the road you will find yourself faced with a kind of fork in the streets and a park/garden bit in the middle, take the the right hand side and take the Tram Line 1 (direction: Mosson) to the Louis Blanc stop. Once off tram, cross over tracks and turn left until you reach first turning, should be on your right (couple of hundred yards tops) and then its the first left (like an alley) and the hostel is just there on the left.
Just remembered theres advertisement off a swimming pool here/nearby but I am yet to see it on my travels and its not an area you would expect to find a sports centre/gym, but I could be wrong.

Horrible horrible horrible. Stayed in a dorm for four people with a bathroom that was completely out of service - no running water whatsoever. Ongoing "renovation" works going on in the hostel - they'll be going on for a long time if they're to make this place worth staying in. Weird atmosphere - aloof staff. Why are there no other hostels in this city?!!
