“Nice, open space for people watching”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

I imagine it would be crowded in the warmer months, but in February it was a pleasant way to while away the time. Plenty of bars and coffee shops

“Fabulous Plaza”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Place de la Comedie is the centre of Montpellier's historic quarter and a fantastic place to hang out. The 19th century French architecture is beautiful and the open space is alive with people, musicians and a fountain. It is easy to get there on one of the tram lines, has great meeting places, bars, restaurants, the tourism information centre, shops, theatres and is within easy walking distance of most places in the downtown area.

“A great meeting place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

I had read information on "what to do in Montpellier" before our visit. When I mentioned wanting to visit the "Comedie" to our daughter who lives there, she just laughed. This large open area was actually right between the apartment we rented and the one she lives in. There are many restaurants and stores all around. Even some vendors selling fresh fruit! An awesome place to catch various trams and to people watch!

“Well worth a visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

I whole-heartedly agree with Bart C, this is BY FAR the most beautiful square I have seen in the whole of Europe and I have visted many (Grand Place in Brussels, Markt in Bruges, Place Stanislas, Marienplatz, Piazza dei Miracoli, and Piazza San Marco to name but a few!).

My girlfriend and I spent day there on our way to Carcassone and, despite it raining constantly, we enjoyed every moment of it. We both like to Skip so concidering the square is said to be the widest pedestrianised square in Europe we had lots and lots of room in which to do so. Just be careful of the tram track that runs through the centre of the square (although you may find this risk adds to the excitement when skipping).

My girlfriend simply loves fast food, so she was absolutely over-the-moon to see both Macdonalds and Quick situated just yards away when we finished our ascent from the underground carkpark situated beneath the square - Her only dilemma being that she didn’t know which one of the two to choose!

If I were asked to give Place de la comedie a mark out of 10 it would have to be 100!

Go there and have the time of your life!
