4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014

This is a genuine two star, if only because the design and layout of the rooms is dumb! Our room (#114) was tiny, dominated by the king-size bed. You had to shuffle around its perimeter, and leaving the room, you had to carefully get in line to leave, there was so little room!
The bathroom design is really STUPID! First it's tiny, tiny, tiny; second it has a glass wall dividing it from the bedroom (so no privacy at all); and then there's no way to contain the overspray from the shower. The entire floor is awash after a shower. The hotel does not provide any hand towels, jus bath at and bath towels.
However, to balance these negative comments, the staff were wonderful, the breakfast very good and the onside parking is excellent, providing you book!
The attached restaurant offered good food, good service and good value - but how it makes a profit is beyond me! Most of the guests seemed keen to take the three minute walk to the centre and dine out.
Montpellier is a fabulous city. Beautifully restored and maintained, with great shopping and walks discovering the tiny medieval streets and back alleys. It's safe and friendly.
Put it on your must-visit list, but try and book at the Mercure.

Although clean and well located, this hotel is spartan The rooms have the bare minimum small with no dresser and hardly any closet. I hate living out of my suitcase but here had no choice. Small Double bed but comfortable. Breakfast was buffet style and quite good. Staff was at times difficult to deal with.

Went here recently for a conference and was pleased with most of my stay:

pros: clean, decent in house restaurant, great bed, good breakfast buffet that does start at 4am for early travelers, location is 5 min from place de la comedie

cons: no bathroom door, and a bit of a huffy woman who works the front desk weekday mornings(the rest of the staff were great), minimal amenities in bathroom(one for all soap), the air conditioning is not very strong - so it can get a bit stuffy, even with the windows open.

Would recommend for location and cleanliness. Consistent with other Ibis.

We paid almost twice as much for the night through a meeting organizer than we paid for Ibis Comedie, which is much nicer, through online reservations. The rooms are extremely small. The beds are in very bad shape. Otherwise the location is great, food is good, and all works and is clean

A 5 minute walk to the Place de Comédie, a beautiful and open place with some cafés, bars and restaurants. Also, most of the city atractions were close by, in a walking distance.
The hotel has the standards that all Ibis have, a comfortable bed, a good shower and a free wifi internet. Very simple room, but that's all what you need. Price is reasonable, around 80-100 € depending on the weekday.

Room Tip: Non smoking room
