“Central, Ibis quality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Pluses: excellent location close to historical center of Montpellier and steps away from tourist office; spacious and comfortable rooms; spatious bathroom; very friendly staff at the reception; good choices for breakfast for an EU standard (mostly sugary, but few salty as well); indoor parking accessible directly from the hotel via the elevator

Minuses: rather expensive parking place and rather expensive breakfast

This was a clean and modern hotel in a great location on the Place Comedie. We had a much larger room than we were expecting, but the bed was really uncomfortable - a wooden board with a mattress on top, and there weren't enough towels.

The suare was a bit noisy in the early evening from really bad buskers, but as it is pedestrianised there is no traffic noise.

breakfast was excellent.

we often stay at Ibis if we want a city centre location and this was ideal for that purpose.

Quiet central hotel. Perfect stay, easy to get to from the airport by using the bus and then walking to the hotel. Friendly welcome and was given a room on a high floor as requested which was nice and quiet. Great location with lots of great restaurants near by. Great city as you can enjoy the beach aswell as the city by using the local transport for a couple of euros.

Overall, I could not have asked for more. The hotel is brilliantly situated, being a matter of metres from Place de la Comedie and around 10-15 minutes walk from the train station. The room is spacious, clean, neat and even has a sofa - something I haven't seen in a while. The bathroom is of a good size (hence, I completely disagree with one person's review when they write "Washroom is tiny, [...] hence water all over floor"). And the staff are second to none - very quick to deal with things. A brilliant stay: do consider stopping here if you're going to Montpellier.

I think my review title is a bit obvious really considering the hotel name. The location is bang on for strolling around the centre off Montpellier.

The Hotel Centre Comedie, not to be confused with the Ibis hotel Centre (which is about 50m as the crow flies) is in my opinion a good bet for a nights stay in Montpellier, you can step out of the back door and you are in the Place de la comedie which is a large area of older buildings with restaurants and most nights has entertainment in the square. The night we stayed in Montpellier there was a Catalan evening with loads of wine and bands; it was a really good night, fantastic for kids as well as adults.

If you are driving in the centre of Montpellier it is like being on a scalaletrix but not as much fun; loads of horrible underpasses, overpasses and road works. Once you have switched off the Satnav/GPS that is about to have and aneurism throught complete geographical embarrassment you will eventually arrive at the wrong Ibis and be directed to the correct hotel.

The Hotel is a 60s/70s looking, not pretty from the front, just bad architects from that period; I blame my mum and free love. However get over that and you can walk 50m in to a beautiful square full of colonial 19 century buildings. The staff were friendly; they spoke good English and actually asked for my Accor card! It is a tall building and we were on the 3 floor overlooking the gallery Lafayette (a large shopping centre) and the Place de la comedie. The room was of a good size, clean and a bit dated, but it suited me right down to the ground because of the location. It is typical Ibis but a decent size.

We actually had breakfast here which was unusual for me; there are plenty of places where you can get breakfast out, but the breakfast was good if a little pricey.

The Car park cost about 14 Euros for the night and you won't have much choice due to the spaghetti which is the road system. Be careful and patient when driving around Montpellier or you could end up screaming.

The town is really pretty and you can see it has been regenerated and I would recommend and stay again.

Highlight is being able to walk from door of Hotel right out to the magnificence of the Comedie square, quite breathtaking and worth the Hotel experience. So many great places to eat which overlook the square, so why bother with breakfast at Ibis.

Not the nicest hotel in town, but has a great location and is a real value for your money. You won't get luxury but you will get comfort and be able to get to everything quickly and easily. Be careful though - there are two Ibis in Montpellier and the other one is in a bad part of town.
