Collioure is crammed full of restaurants- most of which are fairly second rate. Those that are slightly better tend to offer very predictable dishes, so our discovery of L'Ambroisie refreshed our tastebuds! They offer a good range of tapas all of excellent quality and just that bit different- around 7 euros -and for us generous portion sizes. You could just have a selection of these if you wish, which would not make it a terribly expensive meal out. You can also have a classic entrée followed by main course. We ate there twice during our stay and each time had seafood- beautifully cooked squid, gambas and scallops, garnished imaginatively with a wonderful array of different vegetables. These were round 23 euros but typical ir the area. The restaurant itself is tiny, so most tables are situated on the terrace. It can be slightly exposed on windy days! The staff were very friendly, service was quick and professional. There was a good choice of local wines and the staff helped with recommendations. Only full bottles of wine were available or by the glass. We have been to Collioure many times and eaten in a number of restaurants there. And we can honestly say that this is the best we've found so far for quality, originality ( compared to what else is on offer for a comparable price) service and value for money.
