“Overpriced but trying hard to be friendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013 via mobile

My wife and I stayed here for a one night as an unusually upmarket treat. Waste of money for that purpose. The manager really made a big effort, and indeed was the stand out host we had anywhere in France, but the hotel just doesn't cut it for the cost. View is OK, but so is the view from any of a dozen places locally. Rooms OK but a bit cramped.. Etc etc. Had it been 25% cheaper I'd have been far happier... Just feel the owners are unnecessarily squeezing it.

This is our 7th stay here, found in 2000 by chance; we have never felt the need to look elsewhere. We have been to 53 countries and live in California; this is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Yes it is pricey, but oceanfront property and the maintenance of it is not cheap. They have made quite a few upgrades since we started coming here, subtle improvements over time that do not change the Character of the property. I noticed that this year they have new beds in the rooms. The staff is lovely and remembered us from last year. The food is the best we have had on this trip...and we have had some great food. They deserve their Michelin star. I read some of the concerns and complaints on this property and I want to set the record straight on some of them. Yes it is expensive, technically it is a four star...but if you pick a Hotel by its star rating you are going to be disappointed. Yes the rooms are a bit small, but they work. It does not have tons of rooms..so there is not going to be someone there at your beck & call every minute. No they do not have velvet drapes, expensive antiques or trendy furniture. THEY DON"T NEED TO, they have the best view in the world and a beach! I would also advise against this property for families, the fun stuff for kids is in the center of town. My experience in traveling with friends has been that the ones who cannot really afford the trip are the ones who find the most to complain about...so if you cannot afford to stay here, do not come and complain. It is a unique lovely property with a great staff. If you want four star uniformity stay near an airport. Nice features: Free WiFi, beach access, a room fridge with a bit of room for your own stuff, pool & indoor Jaccuzzi.

It is twenty two years since we last visited and everything is much the same. Stunning view, exceptional service and yes it is expensive.
If you want anything just ask Claire or Sebastien on reception - nothing is too much trouble.
The bathrooms all have a copy of a painting on the wall. We were in room Cezanne and there were prints of his paintings on the walls.
Last night we had a special dinner cooked by two Michelin star chefs - very expensive but what a meal. An experience you do not forget.
Just need to save up for the next visit, let's hope it doesn't take another twenty two years as the numerous steps in the hotel will be prohibitive.
Hotel has small pool, sauna, sun bed terrace, sitting terrace, restaurant with large outdoor seating area looking across the bay, private parking across the road and public beach below hotel.

We read the mixed reviews and so decided to book one of the better rooms with a balcony. This was a good choice as we found the superior room very pleasant. The standard of the room is not really high luxury but very clean, and comfortable with good amenities like robes and slippers. A real treat was to have a ketlle facility so I could make a cup of tea. This is so rare to find in a hotel in France or Europe generally. Importantly the king size bed was very comfortable.
The highlight was the stunning view of the bay and of the beautiful village of Collioure. The 2 girls working at reception Coralie and Melissa were both delightful and helpful. The walk to the village was only a few minutes and very easy.
We also had dinner at la Balette, the gastronomic restaurant of the hotel. I can highly recommend it. The food, service and atmosphere was fantastic. One of our best dining experience. Unpretentious but sophisticated delicious food with subtle flavours and combinations. Dessert was outstanding. A real treat.

Room Tip: Treat yourself to a superior room with a balcony. This will enhance the experience of staying at thi...

Relais des Trois Mas is a great hotel in the most perfect location to use as a base for exploring this beautiful part of the French/Spanish coastline but why leave your room when you can sit back, relax and watch the light changing over the delightful town of Collioure. We did not want to leave! There are plenty of places to eat in the old town but make sure you leave at least one night to dine at La Balette - we had 2 of the most superb meals at this restaurant which is attached to the hotel.

We paid a high room price for this hotel in Coulliore. Overall for three nights we paid 850 Euros. The rooms, thouhg with great views, are tired and need updating. Cheap furniture and a questionable standrad of bed. Breakfast was very average with less than friendly staff. The receptionsit crowned our stay by being rather rude about us English.Recommendation: AVOID too highly priced for what is offered.

Room Tip: Dont pay for the highest price room as its not worth it.

Fantastic location and great view. But, that is where it ends. Not 4 star by any means and very expensive for what you get. No info in bedroom, cracked loo seat, cracked teamug and just 2 teabags!Dirty pool area with sauna and shower out of order and no drinks service.
In need of a refurb and a shake up- suggest you choose another hotel in Collioure.
