“great location...beautiful entrance hall...nice little pool”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

this was once a beautifully grand hotel - the entrance hall is a great place to spend time in (in fact you might want to spend your free time there as our room was fairly small). It's a little tatty round the edges but that doesn't really matter as the original grandeur is lovely and still evident.
breakfast is way too expensive ..you can buy it for half the price at brasserie across the road. nice swimming pool in the basement - lovely for a quick dip after a hot day sightseeing.
there are not many staff around reception so you might be in for a long wait if others are checking in.
Metronome club round the corner, by edge of canal, is great for dinner and there;s free parking round the block,

Booked last minute on line, as needed to stay in Carcassonne to catch an unplanned early flight.
The Hotel is situated just a few minutes walk from the train station and walking distance to the centre of town. Young guy at reception was pleasant and helpful. That's the last positive note in this review..... The Hotel is rated as a four star, so that just shows how misleading the star rating system is. Yes it has a lift, swimming pool, 24 hour reception etc but it takes more than that to come up to four star ratings in my opinion. The unsupervised swimming pool for example is very French as it needs to close for two hours at lunchtime (it doesn't open until 9 am). The whole place is tired and shabby, the rooms very small, ill proportioned, cheap 1980's furniture that wasn't even good in the 1980's, smallest shower room possible with black mold on the shower door and some tiles, poor soundproofing etc. All this for 130€ (very strangely the hotel displays its' rates as 65€, then in smaller print mentions 'per person'). I would recommend avoiding this hotel at these rates. It would be more accurate and reasonable if it was rated two star and charged half the existing rates. I will not be returning, even if it did.

Room Tip: Don't choose any od them

I was quite surprised by this one-century-old liberty-style hotel, which has been recently renewed. The renovation preserved the original style (so it could be liked or not depending on personal tastes), but the result succedes in bringing you back in time to the time of dressing gowns and frack-suited men.

We stayed in three in a two double bed room with view on the Carcassonne's citadel. Although we were travelling with quite much luggage, the room was slightly small (in particular the bathroom was just right). Very good wi-fi (which is not always to be found in this kind of hotels) which was able to bear audio and video calling.

Pros:
Fairly rich breakfast in a modern lounge (at least for me, it was a break from ancient times).

Cons:
For a recently refurbished hotel a few more electric plugs are expected. We were in three with a mobile each to recharge and we had to take turns in order to do it!

The global note would have easily been out of five if we were not been asked to pay upon arrival for our one night stay after an installment had already been asked for and regularly payed.

Most of the other reviews on here are correct. This is a "faded glory" establishment which offers a good standard of accommodation, but not 4 stars. What is cool is the beautiful entrance lobby; the pool is nice; the rooms are larger than more modern hotels; you're not staying with thousands of other people in the cité, plus you can walk to the train station in two minutes. The bed was extremely comfortable, the place was quiet and it had a Nespresso coffee machine.

What was really missing here were a few luxury touches which don't cost much. The towels were meanly thin, face washers weren't provided, those horrendous plastic cups you now see everywhere were in the bathroom. The staff were nice enough, but most are clearly students doing a summer job, and not hospitality professionals with a vested interest in the place.

I'd stay again, but they're going to either have to up the standards a little, or bring down the prices.

Stay here for something different, and think of all the decades of people who've visited Carcassonne from this base!

This hotel was an aging curate's egg. It certainly had its good parts. The main advantage for us was being 50m away from the railway station, and that was the main reason for staying there, along with our penchant for sawney old hotels. Certainly old but sawney we think not. A lock on the Canal du Midi is in between you and the station and you can spend time watching tourists in boats embarrassing themselves.

We stayed in a superior room. These are larger rooms with a view over - in our case - the park, which was quite a pleasant outlook. The room was clean, with new wallpaper throughout the floow, as was the bathroom and toilet. There were a couple of chips out of the enamel bath, and there is no overhead shower, but a flexible shower hose instead. Water had damaged the wall opposite the bathroom but it was clean though. Overall we thought the place was in reasonable condition given its age.

Tea and coffee making facilities would have been nice but this place is pretty traditional in that regard. We had drinks in the delightful lobby downstairs, so that is an option. There is also a bistrot as part of the hotel and another over the road.

One nice touch was the separate toilet and bathroom, with both separated from the bedroom by a door separate from the entrance door. This was handy as the walls are fairly thin and there would have otherwise been some noise from the corridor. Suggests that the superior room was worth paying the extra for.

We enjoy staying at old hotels, although the refurb for this one was a bit ordinary. The floors squeaked but that's old hotels with wooden floors for you.

There is a bar downstairs which was always empty, other than for breakfast which we didn't try at the hotel. Breakfast at La Rotonde bistrot, immediately over the road was an okay continental breakfast with coffee for €6, as opposed to €10-15 for the hotel breakfast.

The staff we dealt with were all very pleasant and helpful. We couldn't fault the hotel in that regard. Thanks, staff, for making for a pleasant stay.

However, overall we couldn't rate this place better than average. As an historic old hotel its best feature is the facade, but you can see that, and the foyer, and have a drink in the bar without staying there. We thought the €140 a night for a superior room for two was ordinary value, but the card displaying rates in the window indicates it is half the price for a solo traveller, and that would be good value. So if you are on your own you might think of staying here.

We stayed at the Hotel Terminus in Carcassonne for one night and we absolutely loved the grand, old-world vibe! It is just a few steps across the bridge from the Gare, where the airport shuttle bus drops you off; from the bridge you can watch the workings of the lock on the Canal du Midi; the room was lovely with very comfortable beds; and the staff were efficient and very helpful. Also there is a great indoor pool and a wonderful feature main staircase! I would rate this hotel highly for location, style and staff.

This impressive traditional hotel is two minutes walk from the airport shuttle bus, the railway station and the Canal du Midi making it an ideal location explore the region by bicycle. The hotel was also close to some good value restaurants.
