“Beautiful hotel, perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2014

Perfect location inside the walls of the medieval city. The hotel and its grounds are beautiful. Our room had a small terrace above the garden, which has great views over the city and valley. Staff was professional and helpful. Rooms were beautiful as well – and clean, comfortable and quiet. The bathroom also was clean and modern. Park outside the walls; a hotel minivan picks you up and drops you at the reception building. The hotel is pricey, though. Definitely should try to stay inside the walls; the crowds disappear at night, and it's a pleasure to walk the walls and streets after dark.

A lovely place to stay and it makes you feel like you are part of the medieval city. Loved the old feel of the hotel. Some things have a worn look but that is the whole idea. The location is perfect with everything right outside the hotel. Had a heated towel rail so it was easy to wash and dry a few things fairly quickly. We found it quite cold when we arrived so we cranked up the air con but it was getting colder not warmer. We rang reception and found out they could choose heat or cool for the whole hotel and it was on cool. But they offered a solution and brought up an oil heater and we were soon as warm as toast. Breakfast was just OK with the hot food being just warm and we didn't find out that we could have eggs to order until our last day. We would certainly stay here again.

This historic hotel is located within the walled medieval fortress of Carcassone in France. You are dropped off below the walls and picked up by a minivan who is allowed to enter the city. Tours are provided to capture every minute of this incredible place.

Room Tip: We had a room on the main level with a door out to their garden. They have said that in July an Augu...

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel de la Cite for two short nights. Our room was perfectly decorated in the french provencal style with all the modern amenities and views that took our breath away. We will never forget the experience of having a drink of wine and watching the city walls turn into a magnificent orange color from our balcony and then ride the elevator to a great dinner. The staff was always ready to take care of our needs and starting with the front desk, every one always had smiles and a sincere desire to pamper us. .

The hotel is inside the city walls, and it is fun and nice.

Rooms are French style, and the balconies are smallish but stunning.

The luggage staff is dedicated but understaffed. Every guest must arrive via a car which gets the luggage, and to my knowledge there is only one porter. The hotel needs at least two more.

From our bed we could not see outside. I would have liked this.

I'm being very picky considering we paid around 500 USD for a mid tier room.

The restaurants in the area close mostly around 9 or 10pm. This is likely par for the course, but we preferred the later hours of many establishments across the Spanish border in Catalunya.

Stay here at least once in your life, but don't expect to quite feel like royalty. The service is hit and miss, and they just need more people.

We stayed here as part of a wedding in suite. The room was beautiful as were the views! It really is a luxury hotel in every way - service, decoration, rooms and character.

It is worth paying for a room with a view over the city walls and a room with a terrace.

Standard rooms are a few Euros over the other hotels in the city, so just stay here.

We loved our one night visit to this fascinating city and delightful hotel.

Arriving a bit early Louise at the front desk took very good care of us as our room was ready and we were able to get settled. We felt so softened, soothed with the comfort of our room. The bathroom was FANTASTIC. After exploring we sat on our private, quiet patio and savored a bottle of Mouton Rothschild "Daniel" we brought along from our M.R. wine tour and tasting. Life doesn't get any better than that moment.

Before heading out to explore we inquired at the front desk regarding restaurant suggestions as the hotel restaurant was fully booked. As part of our exploration we checked out the 4 restaurant options and wisely chose La Marquiere and even our window table. Our dinner turned out to be fabulous, fantastic, my best meal of the entire 3 week trip.

Before dinner we had a glass of champagne at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed the upbeat new bartender. The front desk women were outstanding. Our "device" had been giving us trouble so we were happy to use the computer in the lobby.

We hated to leave and regretted that we didn't have more time to luxuriate in our accommodation. Next trip to France? We'll definitely return.

Room Tip: Like everyone else, we LOVED our quiet 402 with garden views. We luxuriated in the comfort of this...
