“Stepping back in time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

We stayed at this Amazing Hotel inside the Walls of old Carcassonne, very Oldy Worldy but works, like stepping back in time in a good way. Huge rooms & peaceful views over looking the gardens & the Town below the Walled City. Staff extremely pleasant. The car ride from the carpark to the Hotel was a very amusing experience. Pricey but a treat.

Room Tip: Garden View

We were surprised to be upgraded to a suite when we arrived for our 4 night stay, the room is very spacious with all the amenities you would expect. the hotel itself is beautiful and built into the ramparts of the city. The receptionists were all very helpful. I would highly recommend staying here if visiting Carcassonne. What lets the hotel down are the little things like not having anyone serve drinks by the pool, the pool itself was wonderful for relaxing by on hot afternoons. Trying to get anyone to serve coffee outside where there were lots of bistro chairs also proved impossible despite asking. The worst was the attitude of the girl at the library bar who did not want to serve anyone, we witnessed her totally blank an American gentleman three times, refusing to serve him when he was asking politely for a martini. This when she had no one else to serve, she just looked at us as if we were all beneath her. It is a shame because good service would bring in extra revenue here and we would all have spent more money at the hotel. Overall though it is in an excellent position to visit this beautiful city

So you are going to visit Carcassonne? Its an ancient city right? So why stay anywhere else than inside its ramparts? Now you have made that decision why settle for second best? Stay at the Hotel de la Cite. So OK it has not got the most modern of facilities but hey the place is over 100 years old so what do you expect? The great thing is that it is part of the whole experience of visiting a walled city. Go, enjoy elect and find luxury in the old fashioned sense of the word. Experience good old fashioned service from staff who understand why people stay in hotels.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a balcony and a view. It costs a little more but if you are staying for more than...

We booked this Hotel after a miserable nights stay at The Demiure Saint Louise Hotel, which we where booked to stay for 4 nights, after phoning the Hotel de la cite they pulled out all the stops and arranged for us to spend 3 nights there, what a difference, beautiful hotel excellent friendly and accommodating staff, nothing was to much trouble they even picked us up and drove us to the Hotel.
The staff especially Adweish gave us a truly memorable stay and we would recommend it in a heart beat, perfect for the Old Cite.
Excellent.

Room Tip: All rooms are fantastic, just some are more fantastic then others!

Since this is a medieval town the best way to truly experience it is by staying overnight in a hotel within the city walls and this one is the best. Whilst it is not a five star, and probably only a three you do have to keep in mind where you are. The staff are not at all friendly or helpful but perhaps this is because they are dealing with tourists all year round.

On a three week driving trip through France, we decided to cancel a stay, since I wanted to visit Carcasonne. The Cathar history really interested me, and I convinced my husband to make the detour. We arrived late in the evening after visiting many villages along the way. Outstanding was a trip to Cordes sur Ciel. I convinced him to use the national highway, instead of the autoroute. Mistake!! I love driving through the countryside, but arriving late with a turnoff blocked by the police, we found ourselves lost in route. We could see the castle, but were unsure how to approach. After a couple of calls to the hotel, (we were unable to use the GPS on the phone) we arrived. What a surprise! The hotel had sent an attendant to pick us up, and we were shown to our room. Champagne awaited us with a box of chocolates! The suite of rooms was extremely spacious with a small kitchen area, complete with burners, frig, mini-bar and coffee machine. The living area was tastefully decorated with sofa, table set, desk, patio overlooking the gardens, and a large TV. The bedroom area had very comfortable beds, pillows, a vanity, TV, and alcove. The bathroom was very large with a jacuzzi tub, separate shower, toilet areas, a large storage area, and dual sinks. Whatever you might need was provided. We were given fresh waters and chocolates every day, and turn downs in the evening. The showers were wonderful, the linens and towels abundant including face cloths, which I appreciate! The lighting in all the rooms was convenient and appropriate. The vanity had an outlet for hair products, which was useful to me. Since we arrived late, the hotel had bumped our dinner reservations which was also kind, since we had already reserved at a late hour. The staff was always most gracious, and I noticed that they were helpful to everyone. This hotel was my favorite hotel among our travels, and I look forward to our return. If you want to be spoiled, this is certainly the place!

Me and my husband spent 2 fantastic nights at Hotel de la Cite. First off, the location is unbeatable, as the hotel itself was located at the heart of the medieval castle. It's as much as the part of the castle. The hotel ground is styled properly for the themed. It's old (what do you expect), and charming.
Luckily enough, as a Platinum Accor Le Club member we were upgraded to the Superior Room. The room itself is quite small (but not cramped) and old. However, the terrace is as big as the room itself and boasts a superb view of the castle and the garden. It's perfect for a cup of tea or just lounging around in the cool early autumn breeze. Whenever we're in the room, be it afternoon (majestic), or sunset (simply glorious), or misty mornings (too dreamy to be true), there are sights to behold from this terrace.

Breakfast was served at the neighboring Chez Saskia. The small restaurant is very homey. The selection of the food is not huge for breakfast (we're from Asia and is well accustomed to vast breakfast buffet spread at a hotel), however it was enough. We also spent some time in the hotel's Library Bar to sip on the complimentary glass of wine, and dinner at the famed La Barbacane. All were memorable experiences.

Exploring la Cite is a cinch from this hotel. The cathedral is right next door, and the castle is only a short walk.

Service was very pleasant and helpful as well. The staffs I talked to seemed very proud of the Cite and genuinely appreciate us. They also arranged a complimentary transfer to the station upon checkout.

This is the property to stay in if you're looking for a hotel inside the Cite. We're itching to go back.

Room Tip: PIck a room with a balcony and view towards the castle and/or hotel garden. Worth it!
