“Vert good overnight stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

We decided to visit Carcassonne for the last night of our holiday. We selected the Campanile Hotel because of the known quality standards, availability and price together with its location. We were not disappointed in the hotel. The bedroom was large and we had the two single beds requested. The bathroom was large and well equipped. We had a second floor room looking away from the city. The location of the hotel was not brilliant, on the edge of an industrial estate, but it was quiet. We elected to have breakfast from the buffet which we found to be comprehensive and reasonable value for money. We would return to this hotel again if in the area.

A very clean hotel with good facilities. We really enjoyed the varied breakfasts which we felt were good value for money. We often had the 'express' breakfasts which consisted of French bread, pain au chocolate, a croissant, yogurt, coffee (or tea) and a fruit juice for just over €6.

We only found a few negatives - we thought the hotel would be within walking distance of the walled city- it's not! The second is the plugs are nowhere near to a mirror which isn't great for ladies in need of hair straightening etc - it was a real pain straightening my very long hair without being able to see what I was doing!

We were a bit concerned when we arrived to see the hotel's location. It is situated on an industrial and commercial park and a number of the units are empty with quite a bit of litter lying around. There are two supermarkets on the park. But as it turned out the situation was an advantage. There seemed to be few other supermarkets in Carcassonne and it was very convenient to be able to pop in them for the odd purchase, There are a few eateries there too.

And it was quiet at night away from the city's traffic.

We did not have a car but getting into town or La Cite was not a problem as there is a bus stop a few hundred yards away, fare 1 euro. The buses aren't frequent but they are reliable. Note however that they do not run on Sundays. Also note that if you catch the shuttle bus from the airport you will be dropped at this bus stop not the hotel door, despite what the driver might tell you.

The Campanile itself is very clean with very helpful and friendly staff. Our room was warm and comfortable but there was an occasional smell, seemingly from the air-conditioning, and from the drains in the bathroom.

The rooms are pretty basic, and the storage is not great. There is no wardrobe, only an open hanging space with a few hangers. There are no drawers, no safe, no clock, and only one hard chair. Only one teabag and minimum coffee provided per day for a double room, even with two occupants, with polystyrene cups and plastic spoons.

The basin in the bathroom is shallow which means the water cools very quickly.

Overall I can recommend this hotel despite the niggles.

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms face La Cite, second floor best though limited view. Even numbered rooms face on...

Good, clean, modern hotel, with very helpful and polite English speaking staff who made the stay all the better. Rooms are of a good size, equipped, good free Wi Fi, and English Channels on the TV and a large fenced in car park.all in all a very pleasant stay

Bright and clean modern hotel with all the facilities one could reasonably expect of a budget hotel. Good shower, basic tea and coffee making equipment, free Wifi and TV with BBC channels ( an unexpected bonus on a wet Saturday evening). All the staff were friendly, professional and knowledgable about the hotel and local area. We chose to take the breakfast option and it was varied, plentiful and of a decent quality. The compromise you make to get all this for a reasonable price is the rather charmless location as it is situated in a shopping park. We would be happy to return and for an extra 5 euros per night even our small dog would be welcome !

Really enjoyed our three days here last week. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Restaurant meals were good and not expensive. Wifi worked well, with free parking. Short walk to lots of supermarkets and 5 minute drive into town centre. It snowed when we were there but our rooms were very cosy. Thoroughly recommend.

We are a family of 4 and had 2 adjoining rooms. This is a good basic hotel, rooms are clean, comfortable and reasonably modern. Surprizingly good. Beds were comfortable, shower and water pressure good. There is no bar fridge in the room. The hotel has a restaurant on site. We drove to the hotel which had free parking on site. The hotel is a short drive from fortified city, around 3 kilometers. Overall a good stay.
