“Absolutely Fabulous-The best place in France by far to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2009

This is an absolutely delightful place to stay. You will stay in a beautiful French style house on the edge of the medi-evil city. You will have a wonderful, beautifully furnished and decorated room. The room is spacious, clean and has the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on! There is a lovely breakfast room where we were able to sit in the evenings and have wine and cheese! You will have the opportunity to meet the wonderful host- most possible the nicest lady in France. I highly recommend this very beautiful guest house- our most favourite place to stay. My wife wrote the other review that has mistakenly given this property only one star. After unsuccessful attempts to edit the review to give it it's rightful '5*' I've had to repeat the review and hope that you experience this truly delightful home.

This is the perfect B&B should you wish to visit wonderful Carcassonne. Albeit a little plain from the outside, it more than makes up for it on the inside. The B&B itself is located at the foot of the outer Ramparts of the Old City, the gate of which is only 7 minutes walk away. The Bastide St Louis is only 11 minutes walk away across the pedestrianised Pont Vieux.
The B&B is family owned and run by a delightful lady, Beatrice. Beatrice is so lovely and concerned herself to ensure our stay was most pleasurable. She collected us from the airport upon arrival and took us back 4 days later on the day of our departure. She was the perfect host, providing a simple but nice breakfast, restaurant recommendations and activities in/around the City.
The two bedrooms were spotlessly clean and beautifully presented. We stayed in the Chambre Buise and have to say this is one of the finest B&B rooms we have ever stayed in. It was perfect, very roomy and equipped with all one needs. There is even a garage beneath the first floor bedrooms to park ones car.
The breakfast area which separates the two bedrooms is again presented in a similar fashion to the bedrooms.
The B&B doesn't have a garden however we didn't need one as we were out most of the time. There were music festivals, art exhibitions, concerts, boat trips on the Canal Du Midi and many other things to do in the area.
Carcassonne itself is quite touristy however we never found it uncomfortably busy. The views of the City walls are amazing during the day and even better lit up at night.
We had many nice meals but the best was from Restaurant de Saint Jean in Place Saint Jean situated within the Cite walls. This is run by Maurice and is a very popular restaurant so we would recommend you make a booking earlier in the day to ensure a table.
Amongst other things we took a boat trip along the Canal du Midi through one of the many locks, did the guided tour of the Castle (with the hand held earphone not the group tour) and visited the local market in the Bastide (held on a Saturday) we would recommend them all.

This B&B was recommended to us and we are so glad it was.

This house is in a fantastic location (although it did take a bit of finding, as there are lots of tiny one way streets here!), with the ramparts of the castle just behind it. The two rooms are beautiful. Because we booked quite late, we had to stay one night in each room, which was not a problem at all, and gave us the opportunity to compare the rooms. Both are really lovely, spotlessly clean and very tastefully decorated, but our favourite was Chambre Buis, which was stunning. Beatrice is a perfect host, so accomodating, and clearly wanting to make sure your stay is extra special. There is nothing to fault here, everything from the colour schemes to the furniture, the location to the host, it makes for an absolutely wonderful stay. We would have no hesitation in recommending this house and would certainly return ourselves.

There are an excellent choice of restaurants in the area, we ate at one just across the road from the B&B, which was very good. It was called Le Trivalou, and I would definitely recommend it. There is also an abundance of choice within the Cite walls, which is just a short 5 minute walk away.

This B&B really is a hidden gem. Superb stay and thanks so much to Beatrice for making our stay so enjoyable. We look forward to returning in the not to distant future.
