“Excellent value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

I did not have very high expectations of this restaurant, especially given the fact that we decided on the 12 euro menu, but I was pleasantly surprised. The starter tart and salad was small but tasty and the main of duck confit and fries was really nice. The dessert of fromage blanc was simple but good. The view of the castle is great from here and the night we were there it was lively. Overall we had a nice evening at an incredibly cheap price.

“The dish of the area in the old city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

While canal botaing along the Canal du Midi, we stopped a day in Carcassonne and had our evening meal in this restaurant. We'd been recommended to go to another nearby, but it was closed that day, so on spec we chose le Creneau, and were not dissapointed. We wanted to try Cassoulet, a specialty dish of this area, and they had it on thi menu. We were eating early for an evening meal, but this caused no problems, and the English speaking waiter helped us with choices. In our party of four, 3 had this dish and 1 had duck. All was good, and as expected, we enjoyed this local concoction of beans, duck, pork, and sausage, all in a sort of casserole. It ws very good.

“Cheap prices but really poor food.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013 via mobile

This restaurant is opposite the Adelaide which we'd eaten at a few days earlier. Whilst the Adelaide was very good, this place is anything but. Amateurish but not unfriendly service, but the food was awful. I couldn't eat the cassoulet. My wife's duck and fries was poor. And we couldn't eat the bread it was so dry. The wine was ok.

The starter was a salad with a tarte of the day which was like a small slice of unpleasant pizza.

I really would avoid this place and ignore what appears to be cheap prices. It's really poor.

“Home made food at a great price.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

We ate at this restaurant last week and did what you are supposed never to do eat, in an empty place. Why this place wasn't packed I'll never now. The menu du jour was great value at 12 euros for 3 courses with a choice of two items for every course. Everything was homemade even the frites which tasted lovely. So many places in Carcassone La Cite seemed overpriced but not this one. The service was good too. After we sat down another 3 couples wandered in and judging by their empty plates and comments they enjoyed it too. I do wish I had tried the cassoulet it looked great but the duck was lovely. Our whole bill was 35 euros which included a beer, wine and coffees.

“Great experience in the heart of Carcassone old city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2012

Set in a beautiful St Jean square, we were a bit put off that this restaurant wasn't as busy as the one across the square. But we are so glad we ate here. The friendly family service was exceptional (including free liqueur at the end of the meal) and the food was very good, too. Excellent cassoulet and duck dishes. Worth a visit!
