“Ideally located in Carcassonne”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

Sometimes when I read Trip Advisor reviews I wonder if I stayed in the same place.

Unlike some people we found the Residhotel clean (and my standards are very high); there was a fridge, a microwave, a dishwasher, a hot plate, a coffee maker and plenty of utensils. The beds were comfortable; there were two pillows each, blankets in the wardrobe (we didn't need them), and loads of towels changed freshly every day. Again unlike other reviewers we weren't expected to clean anything or put rubbish out, but we were travelling with Newmarket, so perhaps cleaning is included in their price.

We stayed in the building opposite reception - the one with the pool, and we had a balcony. That side is away from the road so we didn't have a problem with traffic noise.

I didn't think it looked like a prison, but like what it is - a cross between serviced apartments and a motel. Not pretty or full of character, you'd probably have to stay inside the walls for that, but very adequate and ideal for a short stroll to the Cite. The bastide was also walkable and if you don't fancy walking back from there the no 4 bus from the station will drop you at the end of the road for a euro.

The staff were pleasant and helpful, and spoke good English. they were happy to book taxis etc.

On the downside, the bathroom did not have a shower curtain, so the floor flooded each morning, and there was no shelf or anywhere to hang towels in the bathroom. I would have liked a mirror and a dressing table area in the bedroom for cosmetics etc.

If I were travelling to Carcassonne by car I would certainly stay here again. It's ideal for the car traveller to leave their car safely while they explore Carcassonne

Room Tip: The rooms in the building with the pool seem to be quieter and have balconies

We booked this apartment to visit Carcassonne and it is just a short (uphill) walk to the Cite. The apartments are large and pretty well equipped. Checking in is late in the afternoon, there was a bit of a queue when we arrived and parked in the secure car park. As we were there for just one night we did not use the pool. The fabric of the room was just a little tired but only superficially.

There are a couple of small shops a bit of a walk away so I strongly recommend you food shop before checking in.

stayed here for a weekend break, when we arrived we were told that our room was upgraded to a 1 bedroom appartment at no extra cost which was a nice start when we went to the room it was next door to the lovely indoor swimming pool another bonus, 5 mins walk and we were at the old town 20 mins walk and we were in the new town, breakfast was basic but all you need to start the day, we would highly recommend this hotel and will deffinetly be staying here again

Stopped here for 1 night with kids 6 and 8. Room great, plenty of space, clean, cool. One double room and kids on twin beds in lounge made up from sofa bed.
Walking distance to the town.
Parking good- plenty and spacious- we have a big car
Pool: ok for a post-long drive dip

We had booked online for one night but arrived in Carcassonne a day early so added another day here. When we got to the room it was absolutely horrible. It stank of cigarette smoke, the bed was a camper bed, it was generally tired and worn out but worst of all, the toilet had been soiled by someone and not cleaned.

We returned to Reception to tell them we were not staying there and they told us we would have to come back the next day to talk to the Manager about a refund. We did but were told we would have to write to Head Office. I was reluctantly happy to pay for the pre-booked room but not the extra day which we were in for only a few minutes.

So far, they have refused a refund. Be very careful if you ever consider staying in this dump. Our advice is ALWAYS ask to look at the room before paying for it.

Room Tip: There are no good rooms from what we could see. It's more like a hostel for people on a very low...

I stayed here with my wife and two boys (15 and 11) in July 2012. There is ample parking at the front and an English-speaking receptionist. Our apartment was a combined kitchen/lounge where the sofa doubled as one bed with pull out below for another. There was one bedroom with two single beds pushed together, separate toilet and bathroom. La Cite was an easy 5 minute walk up the hill. Following a walk around La Cite we returned to make use of the pool and gym, a helpful diversion for the boys. The pool is clean and well maintained. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance so we didn't take up the option of breakfast. The apartment was perfect for one night but for a longer stay I would want proper beds. Some rooms come with balconies so worth checking if you will be there for a while. The large lounge has a basic aircon unit which struggled to cool the size of room. Overall, very happy with the price of Euro 110/£92 which seems fair for the size of apartment and facilities.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room if staying longer.

We stayed here for a week and had no massive complaints. With a young son, it was nice to have the freedom of self catering but with the facility of a pool. The apartment was modern, clean and spacious with plenty of bedding and towels, and we had a balcony which was pleasant. I didn't mind the fence round the property. The pool area was fantastic - we were in there everyday and there was only really one day where it was crowded.

However, I really think they could make the place to be so much better with a little effort. For example, there was no decent outside or communal space. There is a shady bit with trees but it's bare, and the rest of the outside space is a car park. As they have so many families, why not put some swings or slides there, and maybe make a games room?

There also desperately needs to be a shop facility - there is space enough for this in their reception building. The nearest supermarket, apart from the baker's over the road, was a good 15 minute walk and very unpleasant hard work with a buggy in the August heat (37C one day - could not go out!). Self catering with no local shop is just silly. Not everyone has cars, and you don't really need a car for Carcassone, particularly with the local airport. This was a real down point for the holiday and made the self catering option far less convenient.

Also, there was no internet access unless you brought your own tablet/ipad. Wifi was charged. We also couldn't find many local restaurants without going up the hill to the city, and ate twice in the supermarket cafeteria (which was actually excellent!). It's just these little things that can make all the difference. The only other real gripe I had was that there was a very dangerous door stop in the apartment which my son tripped over 3 times, and I did once resulting in a purple toe for the remainder of the holiday!

Good points:
* great pool which we used daily
* good breakfast (though you need to pay EUR8.50 per person)
* close to the old city
* good if you have a car - lots of parking
* lifts useful with buggy

Bad points:
* Lack of local shops and restaurants unless going into the old city (uphill - avoid August heat!)
* Lack of internet access
* Wifi charged and Breakfast charged - make it inclusive!!
* Not enough space/facilities/activities for families
* Didn't think the location was that amazing for price - not local to the new city (30-40 minute walk) and one of the furthest hotels out generally in relation to hotels near the old city.

All in all we had a pleasant holiday (though hot!) but I probably wouldn't stay there again if we came back.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony
