“Very good but noisy builders opposite for some months to come”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

A good hotel, nothing fancy but everything you need. The reception staff speak English which is handy. The Versailles Rive Droite railway station is nearby for quick trips into Paris.

The attractive old Louis XIV hospital opposite is currently (as of June 2013) being converted into flats by noisy builders. Work starts at 6 am (7 am on Saturdays with Sundays off) with a chorus of "bon jour" so loud it woke me and I got out of bed to check the double glazed window was not open (it was firmly closed). Earplugs reduced the noise to a level when I could sleep with only the occasional awakening. I am not super-sensitive to noise, being somewhat hard of hearing.
The building work is not, of course, the hotel's fault.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back until the building work is finished. I think it will probably be finishe...

The hotel rooms are quite basic, but at around €75 a night with free parking and WIFI, and walking distance to the Chateau it is very good value. We found the rooms clean, and the reception staff especially very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed staying in Versailles as the town is lovely. Staying in Versailles is by far the best way to see the Chateau as it is very easy to get there at opening time or before. We were there at Easter, the hotel was virtually full but there were still parking places available

This small hotel around the corner from the Versailles Palace is nothing fancy but very nice. Clean and well run. Not luxurious. Classic French breakfast. Fantastic location to downtown Versailles. Pleasant staff. The afternoon manager is very funny.

I have never been inclined to write a review before but I needed to warn people not to stay here. It smells of smoke and is not clean. Upon telling the staff that there was pubic hair and who knows what else on the soap in our bathroom he merely shrugged. Would rather be sleeping outside. If they didnt have my credit card info i would leave. Instead, sleeping in my clothes on top of my coatPay more money to stay somewhere that is at least clean.

Tucked in a side street, we given a warm welcome as we arrived. The car was tucked away in the hotel private car park behind an electronic doorway.
Our room was neat and tidy with a view over the street. The TV had BBC World News and CBN News. The ensuite-bathroom was small but efficient with a bath/shower.
On our first night we made a short walk to a local square with plenty of choice of eating places.
The entrance to the Palace of Versailles is also just a short walk away (about 14 minutes).

Room Tip: a quick walk to local restaurants

I booked this hotel because of it's free parking, which is good, however the car park is very small. If you want to park your car, you need to get there early. It was fairly easy to find, and there are the brown hotel signs that point the way also.

The room was ok. I realise that rooms in the Paris area are small. It was clean enough as well. The only real complaint was the shower in the bathroom. Clean enough, but to get into it, one had to step up into it. That step up was 15 inches! Not so bad when getting in, but getting out, it was very slippy. I can easily see a person with arthritis or other mobility issues having a difficult time. An accident waiting to happen really. And the shower head was waaaay up there. Not being adjustable, a short person can only just stand there and drown. There was no room to move to either side.

The staff were friendly enough, though not particularly helpful. When asked about currency exchange they all sent me to different places, none of which would exchange my sons money when we got there. All of the staff members I dealt with spoke English, which was easier than translating.

There is a direct dial phone in the room, but the rates charged were outrageously high compared to the other french hotels we stayed in with the same service. One phone call that lasted less than 3 minutes was charged 10.50Euro. The same phone call in our previous nights hotel had cost 1.70Euro.

The Gare Rive Gauche Versailles was about a 10-12 minute walk from the hotel. The market square (which was one of the best things about our Versailles stay) is just around the corner.

Over all, I might stay there again, but only after doing a lot more research. I think there was better value for the money in the area if I'd only had the time to find them. I'd only recommend this to a friend if they were already familiar with European hotels and had realistic expectations.
