“the WORST hotel i ever seen, could not sleep - discusting !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2010

my god, what can i say, the room is so tiny - can bearly hold 2 people, the bed springs are all out and hurt my back, the shower is so small you cannot even turn around without hitting the door, and the staff is just awful, there was NO ONE at the entrance on 9AM to let us checkout, so after 20 minutes of wait time and seeking, we just went away and left the card on the table.

i advise you all - get a different hotel. try those outside of Paris, they have great parking, and theres a Metro to the center in 15 minutes.

Tingis is a great place to stay if, like us, you want to be able to see all of what Paris has to offer without paying top dollar. The rooms are compact, but do have lovely clean modern bathrooms, comfy beds, nice decor and are serviced regularly by what we could tell. The guy on the front desk when we got there was really pleasant, and took time to provide us with a map, and show us where we were in relation to metro stops and all the main attractions, which was extremely useful!!! (We can recommend a Paris Visite metro pass as the metro was so easy to navigate and it's cost efficient if you're there for 3 days like us) The area is ok, laundromat, convenience stores and restaurants all in close proximity.

Negatives - no lift and a very narrow staircase, but with a bit of effort the boys of our party of four got them up as we were on first floor. We stayed 4 nights and on the first 2 nights were kept awake because of the relativley loud streetnoise and net curtains which let streetlight and then sunlight in. But then on returning to our rooms on day three, heavy curtains had been fitted - they had obviously been cleaned as were still bit damp - so that was problem solved!!

Overall we were very happy - could have been cheaper but we knew Paris was expensive.

This is a budget hotel, and delivers on that front very well.

Very clean, well kept, and with friendly staff. The rooms are small but modernly decorated, with a comfortable bed, wall-mounted TV, and a washbasin (single rooms share a shower room)

The shower room was small, but again clean and serviceable.

If you are on a tight budget but want clean, modern accommodation, this is the place for you.

To begin I will say a few overall impressions:
Rooms are extremely tiny but they are clean and nicely decorated. You get what you pay for. On top of that, the location is in a very questionable part of town so stay in a group or get to your room before sunset if you are alone. We saw a purse snatching in broad daylight. Furthermore, you hear absolutely everything that goes on around you. Road noise was expected but our first night we were on a floor with a really loud father that kept yelling at his child while periodically making a slapping sound. You can only imagine from there. We were then switched to a larger room on the first floor and had a quieter experience (other than the busy road). So that would have been the end of my very fair account of our experience, but will now explain what is prompting me to write this review from the room even before we officially check out tomorrow.

On our first arrival, we are expected to pay up front. Apparently the credit card machine is not working but since we only brought enough euros for food and sight seeing, he said the machine would be up later and could pay then. So we go about our visit in Paris and do all the things we planned on doing, and come to the night before we leave (about 2 hours ago). The card machine is not working. We find out that he did not make a preauthorization on the card when we booked through hotels.com and "apparetly" has never heard of doing that or has ever used the manual machine to take an imprint of the card to enter in details when the machine is working. Great. We go to a bank machine close by and try to take cash out with our bank card and it doesn't accept it. Can't use the credit card because we haven't set up a pin number on it. Go back to the hotel and called visa to set a pin up but that could only be done at a teller and the banks are all closed. We are basically screwed because this guy refused to wait until 8:30 am tomorrow (when we check out) to call his bank and learn how to manually charge our credit card the way he was supposed to when we gave our credit card information when we booked the hotel. Apparently he just wants credit card info to look at because he doesn't use it in any way until he can swipe your card...if his machine works at all. We thought we were totally out of options because visa could not help us at this time, and the owner wanted 3 nights payment in cash right then and there. I flipped through cards in the wallet that we rarely use and found another bank card to an account with no money in it and my husband came up with an idea of taking it out of overdraft and our cash problem was solved. The owners attitude over us not carrying around hundreds of dollars more than what we need was offensive... Since you would expect a reputable hotel to be the last place to only demand cash and since he has had our credit card info from when we booked!! In any case the problem was solved only because of a nearly dormant bank account with an overdraft set up. The owner gave us 7 eur for the overdraft draft charge, but he ruined our visit to Paris and I will never return.

And I have always read reviews and taken them with a grain of salt because you truly do get what you pay for. I was expecting tiny rooms (though clean and nicely decorated as I mentioned) but I was not expecting a business owner that was as rude, infuriating and ignorant of general business knowledge.

The hotel location is close to metro station. Aproximately 30 min by metro to all attractions. The room was very tiny, but well decorated. Bathroom was o.k.
One very big minus was the stairs and no elevator. Stairs was cramped and very hard to get up with your suitcase. The noise from the street was very loud, but that don't bother us.
The staff was helpful and nice.
There is plenty of restaurants and bars near the hotel, so no worries, that hotel don't have the feeding service.
In general we enjoyed the stay at Tingis, but next time we will take place closer to all attractions.

We spent 5 carefree nights at this beautiful hotel. The new owners have done a wonderful job renovating Tingis tastefully yet within a budget, hence keeping prices low. The free wireless internet is a nice touch, though it doesn't work well in all rooms... One can sit in the patio though near the reception area instead to achieve a full signal. Kader at the reception was extremely helpful and pleasant, and can pretty much guide you towards anything... He booked us tickets at Moulin Rouge as soon as we told him - and it was last minute and during holiday season. Unfortunately, the hotel doesn't offer other amenities and services (though I think the restaurant in the front was in the process of being redone - so I think it will be available in the future), but in reality this hotel is a clean, tidy, tasteful hotel very near Montmartre and the subway, mostly for people interested in sightseeing... Think of it as a cheap, good, clean and friendly base to explore the beautiful city of Paris.
