“Excellent Food, Excellent Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012 via mobile

We came across this restaurant by chance after a long and tiring tour of the Louvre. The trip advisor logo on one of its glass windows caught our attention but we were skeptical as the place was still empty at 8pm, the waiters were sitting down looking bored. But we were tired and hungry so we decided to walk in. The people were very polite, our waiter was helpful and patient in assisting us with our food and wine choices. The place quickly filled up within a few minutes after we sat down. We had the onion soup, salmon, penne arrabiata, and tiramisu. The soup was hot and rich with generously cheesy crisp bread. The salmon was tender with the yummy herbed butter on top that adds that burst of flavor on your tongue and the vegetables on the side were blanched just right. The penne arrabiata was flavorful with enough spice to keep things interesting. Oh but the tiramisu was the show stopper! Creamy with just the right sweetness to keep you wanting for the next spoonful then another then another...must have again!
Our waiter was very friendly and was kind enough to answer our questions about directions. He patiently helped us make sense of the map. Our bill was priced just right for the excellent quality of the food and wine. We will definitely come back!

Oh by the way, we are Asian and the staff were still very courteous :)

“Went twice, loved it both times.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

My husband and I were recommended by a local this old world Italian bistro for dinner. Whilst it is true a couple of the waiters can seem a little aloof, we were seated on the first occasion (my birthday) without a reservation at a lovely banquet table. The traditional Italian food is excellent, fresh ingredients, delicious flavours, cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. The second occasion we booked ahead, and had a lovely corner table in the window. Our waiter on this occasion was extremely friendly and gracious. Between us we have eaten the minestrone, asparagus risotto, rocket and Parmesan salad, veal Milanese (twice it was so good), duck, the terrine plat du jour and the creme brûlée. All excellent. It is a sophisticated, interesting bistro with patrons who all seem to know the owner personally, red velvet drapes, lush upholstered furniture, and an amusing oil painting on the wall. Worth a try.

“Happy Surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

We went there after the Louvre without any plans. We very much enjoyed it despite some reviews complaining about service. The food is excellent and a great vaule for Paris--familiar dishes expertly cooked. I think this is a great option if you are in the mood for Italian. Small and cosy with just a few outdoor tables, service is neither awful nor excellent but somewhere in between. We were there twice and both times we felt that while the service was adequate the food was excellent. Highly recommend!

“Great food but the service is indifferent”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2012 via mobile

As indicated by others, the service is great for locals and the opposite for visitors. However, the food is really good. So whether or not you choose to visit should depend on how much you value service over the food.

“Very Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2012

Le Montegrosso was very convenient to our apartment location and the menu was appealing but after reading some of the negative reviews here we initially decided to give it a pass. Finally on our last night we wanted to make an early evening of it and decided to go. Upon arrival ( probably due to the early hour ) the place was deserted which gave us a bit of pause We were very pleasantly surprised! This turned out to be one of the best meals we had during our entire visit. True - the wait staff did seem a bit
stand-offish compared to other places but maybe that is part of the charm. Anyway the lesson for me at least was to sometimes look beyond the negative ratings or at least take them in context. The environment was elegant and the food was excellent
