“Avoid - awful and outrageously expensive”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013 via mobile

A glass of wine and a pint - 17 Euros. Enough said.

Lacks any ambience or character - just avoid this dire parody and your day will be much better for it

Hi there, I'm really saddened to read that you found your visit to The Frog & Princess to be without ambience or character. We like to think that, no matter what else, we provide a lively and welcoming atmosphere which most of our clients return for again and again. A large (250ml) glass of wine does cost between 8 and 9€, and our own brewed craft beers are 7€ a pint, which we have priced in accordance with the area and our competitors. Often visitors to the area do find this more than they might expect but we like to think the experience and service we provide in our pubs justifies this. Clearly, on your visit this was not the case and I would be happy to invite you back for a drink on me next time you're in the district as a gesture of goodwill and in the hope you might have a better experience with us.

Friendly, knowledgeable staff gave us a tasting tray of beer when we arrived. Fun atmosphere, nice cocktails.

“Do you want another jug?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

Dont like to be asked this question when there is still a quarter left in the previous jug. It appears a bit pushy. Prefer to be relaxed, unhassled and unquestioned when drinking my beer with friends. If the pub claims to be British themed then i would like British standards as well. As it turned out the question was by an attractive barmaid to one of our group who could not find it in himself to refuse and we stayed on, drank some fantastic beer (bloody expensive too) and missed our train. The beer was very very good. The ambience is very modern and therefore unappealing to me. The front and rear of the pub is taken over by some huge fermentation vats ostensibly supplying the beer directly to the taps as a microbrewery would. How they manage to keep the temperature controlled around the vats in such an open plan place, to allow fermentation of a perfect pint is a mystery to me. Or are the huge tanks for show??? I dont know.

“Busy bar with great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

Part of the Frog chain of English themed pubs that brews its own beers on the premises. When we arrived at about 7.30 on a Saturday the place was packed out and we couldn't get a seat. The very friendly English speaking manager said a table would be available in about 20 minutes so we got a drink at the bar and waited until a table was free as we just wanted a casual light meal. We were seated after about 15 minutes and enjoyed a large sharing platter of food and a few more of their excellent beers. The menu offers a choice of typical pub food such as burgers and salads - the food coming out of the kitchen all looked very good and people all seemed to be enjoying it. There are some large screen tvs showing sports but these are easily ignored.

If you want a change from the usual Leffe and 1664 offered in most Paris bars and a light meal in pleasant surroundings with staff that go out of their way to be helpful then this is a good choice - it does get very busy but takes reservations.

“nice beer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

Ate here last Saturday, ordered the Falafel wrap with grilled aubergine and tomato salsa, plus a basket of home fries. Both were delicious but when you add the price of the fries into the equation (they are not included with the wrap) it is a VERY expensive meal. Would recommend the chain revises their pricing strategy and includes fries with meals because surrounding restaurants offer complete 3 course menus for not much more. However, I believe most customers go for the beer, had the Inseine, lovely taste - nice to find this microbrewery chain in the capital of France. Service was OK, nothing wonderful, toilets in the cave, a little difficult to access but they were clean.

Firstly we’re really happy that you enjoyed the food in the pub, secondly we’re sorry that your waiter/waitress didn’t offer you the option of replacing your side salad falafel accompaniment with fries, as this is completely possible. All our burgers come with fries, potato wedges or side salads and clients are welcome to change any accompaniments. Thanks for your review!
