Description: Le Ragueneau restaurant in Paris two steps from the Louvre and the Palais Royale is one of the literatures most historic eateries. This is the location of the restaurant of Cyprien Ragueneau, 17th century chef, poet and great friend of Moliere and others, after whom Rostand named Cyrano de Bergeracs friend. The new incarnation is a chic, extremely French brasserie in warm tones of red and ochre with brass chandeliers, absolutely stuffed with Ragueneau-related art. Vincent Sitz, formerly of Taillevent, offers snacks and teas on the ground floor, more complete meals in the elegant first floor dining room, a modern menu inspired by Ragueneaus dishes, braised lamb en cocotte, salads, entrecotes, and especially tarts. The wine list is devoted exclusively to wines from Bergerac.

“Great lunch spot!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2014

After a few hours at the Louvre we selected Le Rageneau for lunch, it was nearby, menu on display, looked good and there were enough people already dining so it seemed a safe bet.

Good service, great salad and a delightful wine to wind down after the hurly burly of the Louvre. We'd go back for lunch again if in the area.

“French breakfast!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2014

For those who would like to experience atmosphere as we remember from old french movies I recomend taking it in little cafeteria named Ragueneau on rue Honore just at the side of Comedie-Francaise. French from evidently different social background take there their "petit noir" before going to work, served by Madame Pascale who seems to remember everybodies taste and preferences. On my second visit she had saved for me a pastry which I had appreciated day before and recalled how I take my cofe! Returning a month later I was greeted with " your's usual?" Fun!! Sibilla B

“Food was Great...Service needs a smile!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2014

This place could be excellent! The food was really nice but the service? The waitress looks like she belongs in a funeral parlour(miserable) and although our waiter was helpful everything was in slow motion! Such a shame because it's in a great location.

“Great dessert, poor attitude.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

The air of aristocracy comes across as incredibly rude. If you wish to seem fancy, then cater to your customers. We only stopped for dessert and should not have been treated as second class citizens.

An unfortunate turn on some otherwise great tarts.

“Service was poor but food was great.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2014

We arrived at the restaurant starving 10 minutes before dinner service. The first waitress nearly threw us out, but let us wait for the kitchen to open. The second waitress came to take our orders and was pretty rude apparently due to either her or our inadequate language skills. After this a third waiter served us for the rest of the dinner and everything went smoothly.

Celery soup with smoked duck was a superb starter. Also the braised lamb was great. Salmon starter was nothing special and the bloody entrecote I had looked like it had just been shown the grill. The bernaise sauce that came with it was exceptional.

For desert a strawberry tart was the best choice.

All in all the food nearly compensated for the bad service in the beginning.
