“Good but noisy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2012

Very good starters (try the Terrine Maison) and good french cuisine, although with a relatively limited choice. Professional staff, also English speking.
It has a nice French atmosphers, it is crowded, but the dining room can become (very) noisy.
Anyway, definitely worth a visit.

“Nice, but not for a romantic night out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2011

We went to Pere Claude on the advice of our hotelier. I would say it's okay, not too expensive (for Paris) but really sort of mid-range. The menu seemed to be very heavy on the meat dishes. It seemed like a nice neighborhood restaurant to me, but not nice enough for a special night out. For example, very limited selection of apertifs and desserts- I guess we were not really meant to linger there.

The service was really very good and attentive, and the atmosphere friendly. A happy group of Japanese tourists who had been celebrating at the cafe waved at the patrons as they left, and believe it or not, people waved back.

“Not our best experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2011

This was recommended by our hotel. While we did not have reservations, we were able to get seated outside. We ordered a bottle of wine and the waitress brought it to our table already uncorked. Unheard of! My husband had a mixed fish dish that was so-so while I had beef with mashed potatoes. The beef was a bit dry. The service here was not the best we experienced during our week long stay. This was also one of the pricier meals we had. There are a lot of restaruants in the Motte-Picquet area that have good food, good service and ambiance. This one lacked.

“Gourmet but Hearty French food like you've never had it”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2011 via mobile

My wife and I came here under the recommendation of our good friends, and we were given a dinner to remember. First off, even though there was no English menu, the waiter took his time to translate to a t every item on the menu, making our mouths water with each option.

What drive the main part of the menu is this insane-looking semicircle of a rottiserie situated right behind the bar, where you'd imagine bottles of alcohol to be instead. They have lamb, chicken, steak for two, pork, and otter meats which they grill here. We had the mixed grill, and it was to die for. It comes resting on the most delicious mashed potatoes you've ever had, covered with the most delectable demiglace that is just packed with flavor. My French-Canadian wife was instantly reminded of her grandmoter's brown sauce, and was transported back to her childhood in much the same way as the food critic in Ratatoulle was when he ate the signature dish.

Apart from the mixed grill, we had a wonderful cheese plate, lobster and salmon salad, and some foix GRAS pate that just melted in our mouths.

I'd definitely recommend this place to those who want to experience the culinary yet earthy side of France.

“Do Not Bother”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2011

My husband and I ate dinner at Le Pere Claude because we were attracted to several dishes listed as specials for the night. We arrived with only one table taken and were happy to be there on the early side. When it came time to order, one of the dishes we wanted was no available that night (although it was listed as a special). So we started out with disappointment.

The second disappointment came when the food actually arrived and we saw that all of our food was placed on a bed of mashed potatoes. No vegetable, no salad, just a massive amount of mashed potatoes. There was no way to taste the meat or the sauce. And it was unappealing to look at as well. Diner food!

We did not bother with any other course and went elsewhere for dessert.

Keep in mind that this is a very expensive restaurant by Parisian standards. Desserts are $15 - $25 each! Our two main courses came to $80 total and that felt like robbery.

Go elsewhere and avoid our mistake.
